Guardian Shields

Introduction:

As the Thargoid human conflict progresses, new technology will need to be developed, newer modules will likely be added over the years to come. The guardian Shield is a great start from a defensive aspect of Thargoid combat. bringing not only a new item to the game but also providing a new visual aspect of the game.

Suggestion:

-Guardian shield is added to tech brokers, like other modules, once unlocked players have full access to all module sizes.

-Shield is unique when equipped, visually appears as a triangular lattice which is the same as the guardian fighter shields.

-Guardian Fighters get traits of new shield (as current shield is just cosmetic with junk resistance)

-Shield has a Thargoid focus, base traits reflect a engineered G4 reinforced Bi-weave shield, however it has stark pros and cons.

- Pros of the shield is that it regerates fast, has Thargoid damage resistance, reduces phasing damage as well as dampens the effects of caustic bleed through (provided these shields are up, the caustic cumulation figure is reduced, however caustic will still bleed through.) overall giving players a nice edge over Thargoid content without hopefully being to powerful.

- Cons of the shield is that it has NO 'human' resistance, all normal weapons (be that kinetic, explosive or Thermal) deal their full damage to the shield, also due to the typical Bi-weave trade off, this shield may regenerate fast, but has a lower overall damage tolerance, with large impacts the shied will shatter with ease.

Synergy effects:

-With Power Plant= 10% increase in durability

-With Distributor= 10% decrease in regen time

-With Guardian shield reinforcement= 10% to Shield reinforcement boost stat

Conclusion:

The New shield should add an extra layer of spice to combat variation, as well as being a notable development for future narrative progressions in relation to the current Thargoid/human conflict.

Yeah, the move towards AX combat requiring entirely different weapons than normal fights was a bad one.

We should be trying to move away from it, not leaning into it.

So is this a shield that's already out, going to be out or wishful thinking?
Defense and offense against a totally different species makes perfect sense.

OP tends to post a Guardian + <insert existing module> thread every few days when they are around. I guess they're back M

Lol, yeah I do it occasionally, I do try to at least put a spin on modules as much as I can whilst attempting theme and balance, only because of the lack of guardian toys in game. and I do enjoy the Guardian theme visually, just feel that it underused throughout the game. Also if I suggest something too new people tend to scream 'that'd break ma blalance!' hence why I have to underscore these things now, and also stick to the theme of the Guardian ,human and Thargoid rock paper scissors damage rubbish that Fdev used :( (yes, I hate it too)

Hey, superchargers weren't in game!...did I suggest that one though? :D

shoot, forgot to add synergy effects to the list!

P.S Really glad you changed the pic back, I missed that little death hamster/ Gerbil/ Guinnepig :D

It's an interesting idea, although I'm not sure if having a tech broker item that is objectively worse in a PvP encounter than it's regular unengineered counterpart is a good idea.

Funny enough, I've got a text file where I go over some ideas for a guardian shield generator that been sitting in a folder on my desktop (along with some other ideas that I keep coming back to) for the last 3 months. There are a few similarities to what you suggest (tech broker unlock, shield animation, retrofit to guardian SLFs, phasing resistance, etc...), but I took somewhat of the opposite approach and made the new shields about as strong as prismatics. My main thought was that since tech broker unlocks are supposed to be about as good as a same-size A-rated module with G4 engineering, the new shield should bring something new to the table (phasing resistance) while also being better than stock shields and worse than G5 engineered shields. As such, I took the regular A-rated shields and beefed them up to get an unholy combination of fast-regen prismatics with phasing immunity and stock shield resistances that could not be engineered. They aren't particularly useful outside of a few situations where phasing weapons are being used, but when such weapons are being used the shields should prove to be exceptionally strong. I haven't come up with stats for power draw, distro draw, etc... yet, so there should be some wiggle room for balancing.
