Guardian Shock Guass- when two great ideas become one...

I love the shock cannons, the design and unique function makes them truly awesome, I also love the concept of railguns, a truly Si-Fi and awe inspiring design! Guardian Railguns are pretty meta when fighting Thargoids, as their function surpasses all the other Guardian weapons (be that through DPS, Damage falloff, or range). I suggest we take another look at this and perhaps create a new generation of Guardian meta. The Guardian Shock Gauss!

(Just as a note: The current Guardian "Gauss cannon" is NOT Gauss, it is a Railgun. Gauss and Railgun designs actually operate off different designs on the same concept of magnetically launched projectiles, Rail uses exactly that, a rail in which a current is charged through the magnetic projectile causing a Flux that propels it out of the weapon, Gauss uses a series of coils that the projectile passes through. they are NOT the same!!! Gauss apparently has the potential to fire much faster, while railguns due to the enormous amount of current they can allocate, can fire much larger projectiles (gauss can too, but I believe this take more effort))

Here is what has to be done for the new weapon;

-Guardian Gauss Cannon name changed to Guardian Railgun (this has been bothering me since day 1 of it's release)

-New Guardian Gauss added

-Guardian Gauss fires weaker rounds than Railgun

-Gauss behaves like a Shock cannon, ultimately with a higher DPS than a Railgun. however;

-shot accuracy will decrease with rapid fire, and heat will culminate with long bursts

-Heat generated is 1/3 of that of Railgun per shot

-Deals 33-45% (no higher) of regular Railgun damage (every 3 bursts makes little over one shot with regular railgun)

-does not suffer the ammo problem the regular shock cannon

-immediate fire (no charge up) also making it universal against Scouts and Interceptors.

-Fires a projectile at same speed as Railgun

-For balancing, the per shot damage will dissipate when more than 3-5 shots are used, the weapon losses it's 'charge' and must cooldown for a brief moment (literally only a second) to regain it's fully charged potential. this prevents the weapon being used as an all out spam cannon.

-Consumes a moderate amount of the distributor, though much less per shot than Rails. (1/4-1/3 of draw per shot compared to regular Railgun)

-Weapon comes in size 1-3 (in line with current Shock cannons) making it diverse across all ships.

The idea behind the new Guardian Gauss cannon is to be Unique as it is useful, while it may not have the per hit strength or the Railgun, it can easily top it's DPS. however Damage per shot and damage per ammo the Rail is still superior. The weapon is intended to follow the Gauss design more correctly, and at the same time create a unique and powerful weapon for fighting Thargoids.

Thoughts on this?

Interesting idea, I assume there will be no difference in heat generation?

Well...being guardian it would not be surprising 'IF' it was added by FDev it would be literal equivalent of arming your ship with toaster ovens, so i'd say it will cook you pretty quick :D

But hey... is that any different to the current Rails? at least you are doing more reliable damage :D :D

It would be nice if it's heat was just a smidge more than regular shocks, keep in mind this weapon has exceptional rate of fire, it needs drawbacks somewhere for balancing purposes.

No arguments here. There are a few parameters to distinguish ships and weapons, but satisfying differences are hard to do, as seen with the Mamba.
