Well I finally hit jettison cargo by accident, luckily(I guess) it was Auto Fabricators and not gold.

Scooped up 10/80. In my defense I was boosting at the time of the big J and they flew every which way but tight!

Id there any way to close that cargo before they all get out? I was thinking about this as #23 went out the door/

most of us have done that one, some of us were lucky and learned from the mistakes of others that the first thing you need to do when you load the game is unbind the 'dump all cargo' key

Yea, I definitely unbound jettison immediately. Sounds like it sucks though, it's not an instant thing? It dumps your entire cargo 1 by 1 and you can't stop it? lol can you imagine slowly losing your entire bank account's worth of palladium or something? Eeek ...at least it sounds like you can scoop them all back up (although you didn't)?

as soon as you drop cargo a despawn timer starts, when it hits 0 the cargo is gone. when you taget a canister it shows you this info as a percentage of its health.

you may be able to scoop 20 or more but you would have to be Speedy Gonzalez to collect 80-100 tonnes, its not possible.

Forgive me if this sounds like a completely stupid newb question, but why would you want to dump all of your cargo in the first place? Does a full cargo load affect your ship's handling that much?

You might want to help out a player by giving them some gold, or perhaps you're being pirated and want to just cut and run.

I moved the key way to the right out of the way and my fingers glided up the keyboard by mistake and nailed the hatch. I don't know why I didn't just leave no assignment?
I guess I wasn't sure(being a newb and all) what could come up so I bound it but now I've removed it since...
