Guesses for the next biome packs for 2022

Now we know for sure that 2022 would be dedicated to biome centered packs with species from different continents.
Anything could happened now. After totally unexpected animal selection in wetlands animals pack what would be your guesses for the themes and for the animal species?

I would say we can expect Desert DLC in June, Tropical/Rainforest animal pack in September and Temperate climate DLC in December.

My guesses are:

Desert
Emu
Caracal
Striped hyena
Porcupine

Tropical/Rainforest animal pack
Gibbon
Red River hog
Fossa
Coati
Maned wolf
Tree kangaroo
Mantled guereza

Anniversary free animal: Dromedary

Temperate DLC

Leopard
Tasmanian devil
Przewalski horse
Wombat

That would leave Takin, Walrus, musk ox, red fox, baboon, howler monkey and wolverine without a slot, unfortunately that’s how limited they are right now.

Though I'd still actually like to see a full Oceania animal pack, if we're moving to biomes (a wise choice IMO) then here's my thoughts. I'm also doing just animal packs. Wading birds or mostly ground based acceptable now that we have the Crane coming. The ones with a * are the ones I'd choose for a 4+1+scenery pack

Desert/Grassland - The Great Plains
Emu *
Dromedary
Crested Porcupine. *
Maned Wolf *
Secretary Bird
Przewalski's Horse - Star Animal *
Hamaydras Baboon

Tropical - Rainforests (aka get all the brachiation and special tree movements done in one pack)
Red River Hog *
Gibbon - Star Animal *
Coatimundi
Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo *
Three/Two Toed Sloth *
Scarlet Ibis
Shoebill Stork (this would have been perfect for the Wetlands pack!)

Temperate/Tiaga - Highlands
Andean Bear
Wolverine *
Amur Leopard - Star Animal *
Common Wombat *
Markhor
Tasmanian Devil *
Raccoon - (Technically could fit anywhere, so it makes sense to put in the Temperate area)

Free anniversary update, as much as I'd like it to be the American Black Bear, I think it would make more sense to give us a second species of a particular type of animal rather than our 6th or 7th bear. Thus, I choose the Masai Giraffe. If they wanted to do two animals to balance not having one for the first year anniversary, these are the two I'd pick.

Just curious for my own work (including both of the anniversary picks)-

Oceania - 4
Africa -6
Asia - 5
SA - 5
NA - 3 (counting Wolverine here)

I'll fill in the rest of things later but my early guess for this summer's dlc is Islands.

Standard 4 + 1 pack with the following:
  • Tasmanian devil (flagship)
  • Fossa (115 votes)
  • Some kind of tree kangaroo (142 votes between all species)
  • Kiwi, takahe or another NZ bird (probably kiwi)
  • Lord Howe Island Stick insect (seems likely now that the capybara is in)

I actually think the scenery for this particular pack could be really cool, and the foliage would definitely be awesome. I'm actually hoping a lot for this pack.

I'm thinking grasslands/plains would make a good animal pack, and it could bring in some much requested species from different continents

Maned wolf (S America)
Przewalski's horse (Asia)
Secretary bird (Africa)
Black footed ferret (North America)
Wombat species (Australia)
Hamadryas Baboon (Africa)
Giant armadillo (South America)
Sheltopusik (Europe and Asia: sorry, couldn't resist, but it would make a cool exhibit animal)

A tropical pack could include

Red river hog
Gibbon species
Coati species
Tree Kangaroo
Panther chameleon

I didn't make it an animal pack, because it would be nice to have more tropical foliage from around the world, such as jacaranda, Bougainvillea, passion vine, bottlebrush, hibiscus etc.

There’s some really interesting options that could arise if Biome/Environment packs continue to show up as future DLC. As I’ve stated in other discussions, they allow for a number unique species from areas that would likely not get regionally-specific DLC in PZ’s future.

In particular, I really enjoy the idea of an Islands Animal Pack. There wasn’t room for many island-endemic animals in previous region-based DLC (which for the most part were arguably more continental-based). Some interesting habitat options for such a pack include:

-Fossa (one of Madagascar’s “headliner” species, a large mongoose-like species that fills the top predator niche of the island)
-Coconut Crab (it’d be our first and likely only habitat invertebrate! Additionally it is incredibly alien in appearance and behavior, truly different from anything else we’d see in PZ)
-Nene (Hawaiian goose species w/ a well-known conservation history, plus a much needed waterfowl rep)
-Lesser Mouse Deer (world’s smallest hooved animal, behaves more like a rodent than an ungulate)
-Tarsier species (there are multiple island-native species, all are equally weird in appearance and behavior)
-Kiwi (would finally add a small terrestrial bird species to PZ, additionally the Kiwi’s bizarre features and nocturnal nature make it a stand-out pick)
-Tasmanian Devil (highly-requested carnivorous marsupial that is totally unique from anything in-game. Also adds to our very small roster of Oceania/Australia species)
-Siamang (any gibbon species would be equally welcomed in PZ, though the Siamang was selected here for its iconic swelling throat pouch)
-Victorian Crowned Pigeon (Is the world’s largest surviving pigeon species and would be PZ’s first rep from the Columbidae Order. Is a largely terrestrial species that fits w/ current mechanics and is a beautifully plumed and colored bird)
-Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo (another highly requested marsupial species. Nothing currently in the game quite like it and there won’t ever be till we see a true tree kangaroo species)

Other intriguing options, if flight mechanics were implemented in PZ:
-Greater Bird-Of-Paradise (coming from a region known for its outlandish birds, this species is arguably one of New Guinea’s most well known birds. Has beautiful display feathers and could allow for some dance-like mating animations)
-Giant Golden-Crowned Flying Fox (picked this particular species because its the largest bat species on the planet, but any island-based fruit bat would be just as welcome)
-Blue-Footed Booby (like the Greater Bird-Of-Paradise, the Booby stands out in a region known for its unique wildlife. Its robotic-like movements and vibrant blue feet only add to its intrigue. Could honestly see this species functioning fine w/o flight mechanics but am playing it safe and putting it here for now. Would be a nice coastal option that pairs well with PZ’s only other Galapagos native, the Galapagos Tortoise.)
-Pelican species (there’s a host of pelican species found throughout the world’s various islands, and any would be a fine candidate to represent this highly requested bird family. Like the Booby, a pelican would function fine w/o flight mechanics but is put here for its debatable nature)

As for exhibit species, there are hundreds of small island species that’d make visually unique options. Some off the top of my head include the Tuatara, Blue-Spotted Mudskipper, Panther Chameleon, and Lord Howe Island Stick Insect that was found already in PZ’s files.

Thought about also mentioning sea turtles as an option, but I’m holding out hope Frontier may still have a Marine/Aquarium DLC up their sleeve and a sea turtle just seems to fit better there 😉

I really like the idea of Islands pack for June with:
Tasmanian devil
Tree kangaroo
Gibbon
Fossa

Forests animal pack for September:
Red River hog
Mantled guereza
Amur Leopard
Wolverine
Wombat
Coati
Howler monkey

Anniversary animal: Golden takin

Grasslands DLC for December:

Emu
Maned wolf

Wastelands animal pack for March 2023:

Hamadryas baboon
Caracal
Addax

Endangared species DLC for June 2023:
Black rhino
Père David’s deer
Scimitar oryx
Siamang

Hmm...

Islands
Tree Kangaroo (New Guinea)
Tasmanian Devil (Tasmania)
Gentle Lemur (Madagascar)
Sulawesi Crested Macaque (Sulawesi)
Rockhopper Penguin (Falklands)
Manx Laoghtan (Isle of Man)
Lord Howe Island Stick Insect

Highlands
Spectacled Bear (Andes)
Maned Wolf (also Andes)
Marmot (Alps)
Himalayan Tahr
Mountain Gorilla (Kilamanjaro)
Amur Leopard
Highland Cow (Scotland)
Monarch Butterfly

In my opinion, a steppe biome is still missing. You could put the wild horse, the saiga antelope and/or the wild ass (Asinus; Esel, the forum dont allow the english term) there. If you consider parts of the Australian outback as steppe, there would also be room for manoeuvre.

I usually dont post in the forums much but I have to in this thread but I'm slightly concerned about what this year is gonna give us.

Firstly let's take a look at the just announced pack. Wetlands Animal Pack, okay, this means this year's theme is gonna be biomes, biomes allow to add a wider arrange of wanted animals without the continent-focus limitations. Considering they added the capybara, the next logical step is the Przewalski's horse, which definitely points at a grasslands pack being one of the dlc this year, along with the Lord Howe stick insect youknowhow we know it's planned, that points out at an islands pack in the case we get an scenery pack between animal packs.

Okay so what could we get from each pack?
A Grasslands Animal Pack is a perfect opportunity to add many highly requested animals: Przewalski's Horse, Maned Wolf, Crested Porcupine, Secretary Bird, Hamadryas Baboon, European Rabbit (yes, a rabbit, we need a rabbit desperately). Amur/African Leopard, and Spectacled Cobra as exhibit animal. These picks are a best case scenario, however, considering how the wetlands pack added some quite obvious filler animals such as the spectacled caiman and the Nile lechwe instead of more highly requested species like the nile crocodile, the red river hog or a pelican, I'm unsure wether we will get such a unique array of animals in one pack. I'm wishing for the best. Also I reaaaaaaally want the rabbit because rabbits would be an amazing addition, the European rabbit covers a lot of important aspects: it's an endangered species (conservation!), it's a European animal (European representation! It's clear Frontier hasn't forgot about Europe with the lovely Danube crested newt as exhibit for the wetlands pack) and it would use the burrows system (keeps mechanics alive!). Overall the grasslands pack is the most safe and obvious assumption.

An Islands Pack is also a safe assumption with the Lord Howe stick insect leak, also it's kind of the only biome-based pack that has enough regional consistency to add an architectural theme with. In terms of species my wishlist would be: Tasmanian Devil, Lar Gibbon, Fossa and Northern Brown Kiwi. While I don't think kiwi and fossa are super amazing must-have additions and the pack would still miss the highly requested tree kangaroos (sad face emoji), these picks represent Tasmania, Sumatra, Madagascar and New Zealand, all of them being globally famous islands, and I find them more marketable to general public than New Guinea (where tree roos are from). In terms of building scenery I guess the theme would be Polynesian with he funny SEA roofs and all that, basically what people wanted if the SEA had been a scenery pack, although I'm unsure how it will differentiate from the SA bamboo set.

So what is left? Now's when things get a bit tense because following the 4 dlc a year schedule, this means (not considering support for 2023) that we are left with only one DLC to be added to the game, so what are can we expect? I've noticed everyone takes for granted the bird dlc, but we can't really take it for granted yet. So there are at least two options:
1. The always wanted Aviary Pack with 8 birds or even more, I'm unsure if it would follow the same format as previous packs given how important birds are. Not gonna bother listing species because the possibilities are basically limitless. Considering after 1.9 we would get the 2.0 update I think it's also an indicative that something big is coming (also japanese crane in the wetland pack hmmmmmm truly a peculiar addition).
2. A less jaw-dropping, but still marketable cold-focused Taiga/Tundra/Mountains Animal Pack featuring the following 8 species: Muskox, Walrus, Wolverine, Markhor, Amur Leopard, Gelada and Sea Otter, and Wood Frog as exhibit animal. This imo is the most unlikely option, the only clue we could get of it happening is in the event the grassland pack is missing the leopard and has something like the emu instead. Also in terms of exhibit animals we could get something different, decent-sized and known exhibit animals for cold regions are pretty scarce so I don't know what other options there are. Overall I only think of this pack because the absence of walrus, muskox and wolverine is quite notorious in the game and I have no idea how else we could get them.

In conclusion and grasslands pack aside, I'm uncertain (but hopeful) of what this year will bring us in Planet Zoo, while I made all this assumptions thinking as logically as possible it's highly likely Frontier will give us some unexpected surprises instead. My only hoping as a PZ fan is that this game ends up with a final roster that doesn't feel it has something important missing and causes us regrets. I have faith Frontier won't disappoint!

Cheers!

I agree that we might be looking at an year with biome themed dlc, although i also think the islands pack is very likely. I think we will be getting at least other 2 regular DLCs with building pieces and i think with the new biome focus route that apparently they are taking the ones that lend themselves to that format the most are a Desert pack (maybe arabic or mexican inspired architecture) and the island pack (just as narwhaler said, i think polynesian-like props are the most likely in this case). I also think we will most deffinetly get a Tropical Rainforest animal pack at some point and a grassland animal pack as well since most of the highly requested animals seem to fit into those two biomes.

That being said, i'll base my wishlist both on the metawishlist and my personal wishes for the animal roster (and here is hoping that dev support extends beyond 2022)

Desert Pack
- Dromedary camel
  • Hamadryas baboon
  • Arabian or scimitar horned Oryx
  • A carnivore: i'd prefer a caracal but striped hyena and sand cat are options as well
  • Egyptian cobra (E)

If they go world wide and include desert animals from north or south america as well, maybe we could get a greater rhea, patagonian mara, big horn sheep, nine banded armadillo, great roadrunner or collared peccary. Honestly there are a lot of options for desert animals. Is a shame we'll probably get just 4.

As for the Islands Pack:
- Tasmanian Devil
  • Kiwi
  • Goodfellow's tree kangaroo
  • Fossa
  • Stick insect (E)

Another animal is see very likely being included is the Sumatran Rhino instead of the kangaroo.

Grasslands animal pack:
  • Przewalsky's wild horse
  • African leopard
  • Maned wolf
  • Emu
  • Secretary bird
  • Greater kudu or blackbuck (you got to have an antelope in a grasslands pack, and i love both of them)
  • Something from NA probably, not sure what it could be though, the most iconic animals from the great plains are already in game. Black footed ferret maybe? The african crested porcupine is also a possibility.

Honestly we could get the rhea as well in this but i see the emu being more likely since is high on the wishlist

Tropical animal pack
  • Gibbon (for sure, the community will riot if not included i think lol)
  • Red river hog
  • Ocelot (personal choice, not that high on the metawishlist but i really want one)
  • Howler monkey
  • Sloth
  • Scarlet ibis
  • Tree kangaroo (if not included in island pack)
  • Panther chameleon

I think we can expect at least another aniversary animal as well that could be anything really but it will most likely be a clone... nile croc? black rhino?

We know there are just 4 more dlc for sure, beyond that is just hoping support for the game continues. So i think one of these packs is not going to happen because if there are only 4 dlc left for sure one of those has to be an aviary pack. Unless the aviary features are never introduce (which i think will cause a lot of controversy) or it is applied as a true expansion pack at the end (with a large variety of animals, new mechanics and new building/ ride features). They are holding back on birds for a reason c'mon. We just got a wetlands pack announced and instead of a duck, swan, pelican or wadding bird such as spoonbill, ibis heron or even the shoebill we got a red crowned crane (which i love and i'm so happy about but it doesn't exactly scream wetlands vibes to me lol), so something has to be going on there with our birds.

So bear with me here...
In another thread it was mentioned that the spectacled caiman and lechwe like the short clawed otter were popular back before the aquatic DLC came out with the dwarf caiman, what was the previous pack - Australia. I imagine the platypus would have been a popular request following that release. 6 DLC'S later here it is. Is that a coincidence?
OK Take another example - the Arctic fox. Popular request after the Arctic DLC i would imagine. North America Pack was again 6 DLCS later and voila the Arctic Fox.
White Rhino and Meerkats probably popular after the base game + deluxe release. Africa was the sixth DLC .
I should mention that the first five packs were likely planned from the start so don't count in this theory. :)

All I'm saying is that these DLCS take time and the timeline from conception to release seems to takes about 18 months based on the pattern, and we should appreciate the time put in and that requests are listened to, just not as instant as you would like. So if you want clues to what the developers were thinking for the next DLC may be about rewind the clock to after the release of the Aquatic DLC so the end of 2020, check the wish lists - taking out those since released and see if you can put a theme together.

So the hard this with putting together these sort of packs is not knowing when or if either an Aviary or Aquarium pack is a possibility. Obviously that will change everything. Could change the amount of animals per pack and also adds a heap of birds/fish that could replace what I’ve put in.

My guess is that we aren't getting biome packs.

"Wetlands" is pretty vague as a biome. This feels more similar to the Aquatic Pack.

I think the next pack will be regional again.

I would agree with a Desert DLC and a tropical DLC.

I am happy with it. Really.

But I also feel like it is somewhat of a missed opportunity? Why focus on a specific biome and not add more foliage? It would have been the perfect opportunity to adjust the format a little. Say 6+1 animals and +40 foliage pieces or something.

Did Frontier actually confirm this year would be all biome packs? I like that they officially opened up the Biome DLC, but I think they will still switch between the two.
Here is where I think they will go in 2022:

Summer - Desert DLC with Scenery
  • Dromedary Camel
  • Scimitar Horned Oryx
  • Caracal
  • Roadrunner
  • Any Lizard species(Exhibit)
- Alternate: Perentie

Fall/Autumn - Oceania Animal Pack
  • Tasmanian Devil
  • Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
  • Coconut Crab
  • Common Wombat
  • Kiwi
  • Little Blue Penguin
  • Wallaby
  • Coastal Taipan(Exhibit)
- Alternate: Emu/Perentie

Winter - Aviary DLC - will come with scenery items, but I'm going with 6 birds in this pack
  • Mute Swan(Europe)
  • Marabou Stork(Africa)
  • Toco Toucan(SA)
  • Bald Eagle(NA)
  • Great Hornbill(Asia)
  • Blue Moon Butterfly(Australia - Exhibit)
- Alternate: Grey Crowned Crane/Snowy Owl

Did Frontier actually confirm this year would be all biome packs?
No.

This is exactly what happened with the Aquatic Pack.

"Aquatic Pack? Frontier is moving onto biomes!"

Then we got the Southeast Asia Animal Pack, the Africa Pack, NA Animal Pack, and Europe Pack. This time will probably be the same.

"Wetlands Pack? We're moving onto biomes for sure this time!"

Next pack will be Asia, or Oceania, or Middle East, or something else.

I like the thought, but honestly we are happy to get any DLC, and patiently wait for our turn to get what we want. All we gotta to is push our thoughts and continue buying.
