Guests not happy, medium level

I am playing on medium level... have 5 stars in everything BUT guest happyness. When I try to determine the issue I'll look at the guest and all the pertinent bars will be in the green.. but happyness will be 21%, 18%, etc. How can everything be green yet happyness level is in the tank? Even some of the comments are perplexing... I don't have enough money for ATM 7... I'm not sure how I can be held accountable for that. Maybe there are too many ATM's which... would be the opposite of common sense but ok.

Also in my medium zoo I got 15 drink shops, 11 food shops, 4 information centers and 9 merchandise shops yet that is not enough? Guests aren't all green with hunger and thirst? How many more shops are needed?

Happiness and needs aren't directly correlated (which is pretty accurate when you think about it because I can be not hungry or thirsty and still be unhappy!). It sounds like your guests might be spending too long walking between habitats and not seeing good views of the animals? if it's large do you have transport rides to get guests around faster?

There was a pretty good guide on here about what impacts guest happiness but the game has been updated since and the education rating no longer keeps guests from getting unhappy. Here it is https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/everything-you-know-about-how-happiness-works-is-wrong.533845/

Wow, thanks for that... yeah, Im certainly doing it wrong. I have laid out a BUNCH of benches but seems like the picnic tables are the way to go. I do have a few picnic tables but certainly not down the entire path. That and my exhibits butt against the path as do the shops... so now I just need guests that consider walking to be a good thing for a workout instead of the lards I have coming in. No transports either so the guests are walking a lot. I'll probably change around some things but want to build my CC credits up a bunch and then start another one. All the while try to use what I got and maximize happyness with different designs in other parts with the room I have.

OK, so I just started playing the zoo again after work and I watched for awhile. Not many of the guests use the tables.. even in the very scenic areas. I see a lot unhappy.. but most are walking past, just a few sit.

This has been an issue since the beginning and why a friend of mine stoped playing this game :( his words : this is a ZOO game... Not a 'drink /food shop game with a few animals in it' game.

It is not normal to have way more shops then habitats :(
In a real zoo you have like 3 big foodplaza's/restaurants, sometimes a few small shops in beteen, but people know where they are before going to a zoo, so if you look at the map you know how far you should walk and if you don't like that you shouldnt go.

I've tried a few things with the shops but when i have over 20 habitats, lots of exhibits, and i placed 50 shops, the guests still complained about thirst and hunger. It is not normal to have way more shops then habitats :(

Hi,
now somewhere we have to make money in the game, donations and admission are not enough, since the guests don't just stay at the zoo for one day, but for months.
What does your zoo look like from above?

Greeting Gabi

At this point, i'd be happy if they halved the need for shops. One of the bigger issues I have with this game as well.
Making a food plaza (like in most zoos) is not an effective way of adding shops to your zoo, something I really don't like.
A bit surprised about the excessive need for shops in this game.

Guests are a Pain always griping about something. I disabled a few things on settings.
Its a nuisance as so many food/drink places, spoil the Map you are building and makes it unattractive. I built a Plaza put Food Drink Cubicles a Toilet and they would not buy food and drink!! but used the toilet. and tried replacing to make sure connected. Still scrapped that.
Hopefully they will fix guests needs it is too excessive i want a Zoo not a Food Market :ROFLMAO:

I absolutely agree, it takes me ten minutes to satisfy the animal needs, and then I have to take hours and hours to satisfy the food needs, not to mention the copious amount of shops I must place EVERYWHERE, because the guests are too lazy to walk 100 yards (or meters). Does not feel like a zoo to me to be honest.

If you only use one type of food and drink shop you only need a few. I have pretty big zoos with only around 8 food/drink shops in total and maintain over 80% guest happiness.

The happiness in OP's zoo is probably a lot of other factors of it is that low.

Here is a quick update:

Started a new zoo after watching some videos and taking into account what is expected versus what reality is. It's gotten a lot better... I can float between 70 and 83% happiness. The shop situation is frustrating as I have LOTS of shops... limited to only 1 drink and 1 food choice, most are in low/medium demand and yet I still can only take care of my guests needs 65 to 75% at any time. Energy wise I got benches all over the bloody place, picnic benches in plazas near major food courts... and yet it seems like the guests don't avail themselves of them. It also seems any sort of clogged path lead to major headaches with energy and happiness. I have one habitat with 3 staircases leading to viewing area and all the guests would keep going down 1 or 2 despite all these people in the way and in a very short distance they would ignore the 3rd. So I have increased my path sizes to raised viewing areas from 4 to 8 meters or more and that seems to have helped. Still lots to learn... going to take awhile to get that high happiness percentage.

I've got 3 habitats, 3 exhibits and 8 shops (2 drink, 2 food, 2 merch, 2 info each with NO choice of different brands) plus 3 toillettes all in a central place and playing on easy. My guest are mostly green (because of benches and picnic-benches everywhere), but about a third of them complain of not having had the chance to eat or drink or buy merchandise, nontheless. The number of my animal-caretakers is nothing in comparison to the number of my shopkeepers.

It's really not playing Planet Zoo but Planet Guest. ;)

I agree, even with 20 habitats and 40 shops on dofferent places (all same drink /food shop), and still complaining guests...

I've never heard of a real zoo that has double the food/drink places of habitats they have, and where people still complain :( i mean: all the real zoo's ive been to have like 3 or 4 foodplaza's and a few (no more than 5 or so) small shops all over the place
