Gunner control's not working?

So recently have gotten a multi-crew ship and when my friend joined me he can not do anything with the weapons. He is able to click L3 to go in to gunner mode but can not fire the weapon. I removed the weapon from my firing group but still nothing. Has anyone else come across this issue and know how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated!

First thing is always to check the key bindings: main menu -> options -> controls and see what is set (if anything).

You need to have the ship in normal space (not super cruise), and then the pilot CMDR has to deploy the weapons. Only at this point can a multicrew gunner even be allowed to fire.

You could also confirm you have enough power: in the right panel check priorities, set the turret targeting to None (ie fire straight ahead), and the pilot fires the guns themselves. Then set targeting back to Target Only or something.

Do you have turrets equipped? Multicrew gunners can only fire turreted weapons. On the outfitting page, all modules that can be used by crew should have the multicrew icon at the bottom.

It said it was a multi-crew weapon when I bought it. when he goes to set up his firing group his interaction screen list everything as Red he can't click on any of it.
