Ships Gunship

I was told to post this suggestion here by CMDR Kosmos from Frontier Help. Is there any chance of having a beefier version of the Vulture? My favourite part of the game is combat and bounty hunting and I'd like to see a high end pure combat ship in the game; currently every high end ship in the game serves a multi roll. It would be nice to see another iteration of the Vulture (bigger, just as manoeuvrable, and having 3 or 4 large hardpoints). It would be strange not to have more versions of the fighting ships in the game as even the combat fighters of today have multiple iterations. Please consider this for those of us who love the Vulture.

Sounds like the most overpowered thing ever. The Vulture already punches well above its weight being a "heavy fighter". Try the Fer De Lance, it's the most expensive combat vessel, not my personal taste but some love it.
I do agree all high end ships are multi-purpose apart from the T9 and I think that's to stop everyone buying the same "end-game ship" and ruling the skies crushing all beneath their mighty credit balance. There is supposed to be an Imperial Cutter and a Federal Corvette coming at some point in the future which should fulfil the high end combat role.

At current I can personally recommend a Python as a step up from the Vulture, sure its not as manoeuvrable but that means you have to actually pay attention and manage pips/boost well to stay on target. On the up-side you have ridiculous shields, power and weaponry to vaporise enemy ships with and enough cell bank slots to keep you in the fight longer than other people.

Apart from your suggestion being absolutely overpowered, the current Vulture already is a "high end pure combat ship". Do not be fooled by the price tag.

I have been suggesting a Vulture variant with 1 large, 2 medium and 2 small. Thruster profile, power and shields all slightly buffed from vulture, focus on a bit more speed at expense of turn rate.

Thats an FDL right? 1 large 4 medium HP's, less manoeuvrability but better shields/guns/internals?

FDL has 1 huge and 4 medium.

I'm suggesting something in between the Vulture and the FDL. I also like the old art asset that looked vaguely like the Vulture shown in an old size comp chart, (The blue one).

I'd like to see a versatile combat ship between the FDL and Vulture at around the 10 to 15 million credit mark.

Sounds reasonable, lets see what the new federal gunship and dropship mk II bring. The Clipper may be something to look at although its a little more expensive (2 large, 2 medium) but has hardpoint placement issues.

I do just want to say im not against new ships but I do have problems with including 50 variants on the "because 1 person wanted it" theory. If we carry on they may as well give us an editor and a number of points to assign to hardpoints, powerplant, speed... wait, that sounds quite good actually...

Well, from the peek pic in the newsletter, looks like the Fed Assault has the FDS 2 mediums and 1 Large on it's belly, so it seems reasonable the other large is on the roof.

The Gunship has what looks like it's 2 smalls on the roof (they might be mediums, but i doubt it), also has at least 1 medium on a blister on the side, again like the FDS for placement, but with the expanded blister it might have a better rear firing arc.

That leaves just the 2 mediums and the large, which i bet will be in the same belly mountings as the FDS.

I'll agree to not getting too bogged down in variants. The new gunship has almost exactly what I wanted for firepower, so I'm happy with that.

I am really, really hoping that the Mk 2 dropship AKA Federal Assault is going to be basically an upgraded / larger vulture, sacrificing a good amount of the Vulture's agility in exchange for more firepower and perhaps bigger or more internals. It definitely has a similar look visually, as does the dropship, but it seems to have had that ugly belly removed :p

We've had the 2M2L hardpoints confirmed - and I assume it will have good convergence like the original dropship - so it all comes down to the shield strength and flight model, and given the existence of the FDL, DBX and Python there seems to be a fairly obvious niche that needs filling along the lines of a slimmed down Python or bulked up FDL. Given that it will be drawing at least somewhat on the original Dropship's specification, perhaps like the imperial Courier it will be a combat centric ship but with an oversized power plant similar to that of multi role ships.

I am slightly wary that it's going to go the way of the original dropship and be another totally useless ship, but the last few new ships have all been good in their own way so here's hoping, and even if it's not very good the Gunship might well shine. I just want a larger-than-vulture combat ship other than the FDL and Python.
