I picked up this game at launch and have played almost everyday for hours at a time. Having been a gamer for going on 27 years, it is always a joy to find a game that can captivate me as much as Elite Dangerous has done so far.
What brings me down every night when I spend time on these forums, though, is all the negativity. People seem to never be happy here and I can't understand why. We are lucky enough to have something that is not only pretty amazing in its current state, but also truly brilliant in its potential, and all we do is squabble like entitled children. This goes pretty much across the board. Solo vs. Open. Piracy vs. Griefing. PvPing vs. Terrorism*. Who got 5 billion virtual credits. People who come on the forum just to state how much they hate other people. Complaints about losing a ship without insurance. It just goes on and on.
Guys, it is important to remember this is a GAME. It is supposed to be fun. The day I stop having fun is the day I find something else fun to do. If you get blown up by another player, shrug it off, or play solo, that is what it is there for. If you lose a huge ship and can't replace it, I know it sucks, but really this is just a game. If you were having fun getting to where you were, you can always do it again. If you were not having fun, maybe do something else with your time?
I am not trying to call anybody out here, I am just expressing exasperation with the vitriol surrounding something so great. There is something for everybody if we could just be less serious about everything.
* I feel that the word 'terrorism' is a very strong and specific one. Using this word to describe player actions in a GAME just seems over the top to me.
