Guys, can't we all just get along?!

I picked up this game at launch and have played almost everyday for hours at a time. Having been a gamer for going on 27 years, it is always a joy to find a game that can captivate me as much as Elite Dangerous has done so far.

What brings me down every night when I spend time on these forums, though, is all the negativity. People seem to never be happy here and I can't understand why. We are lucky enough to have something that is not only pretty amazing in its current state, but also truly brilliant in its potential, and all we do is squabble like entitled children. This goes pretty much across the board. Solo vs. Open. Piracy vs. Griefing. PvPing vs. Terrorism*. Who got 5 billion virtual credits. People who come on the forum just to state how much they hate other people. Complaints about losing a ship without insurance. It just goes on and on.

Guys, it is important to remember this is a GAME. It is supposed to be fun. The day I stop having fun is the day I find something else fun to do. If you get blown up by another player, shrug it off, or play solo, that is what it is there for. If you lose a huge ship and can't replace it, I know it sucks, but really this is just a game. If you were having fun getting to where you were, you can always do it again. If you were not having fun, maybe do something else with your time?

I am not trying to call anybody out here, I am just expressing exasperation with the vitriol surrounding something so great. There is something for everybody if we could just be less serious about everything.

* I feel that the word 'terrorism' is a very strong and specific one. Using this word to describe player actions in a GAME just seems over the top to me.

You reminded me of this (with probably a similar outcome):

Apparently not. This community is keeping me in solo mode more than the griefers. I don't really have the desire to associate with the other people who play this game.

Ive seen other forum communities who resemble a swirling flock of rabid vultures waiting for meat to drop, but this one takes the cake.

"Amazing" you say? Clearly you haven't discovered any of the major issues reported to death on these forums. People have a right to be outraged when their hard earned money is wasted.

You can find issues with everything made by man if you try hard enough.

You are a fan, who "can't understand the negativity about something so great".

Great to me at least. Maybe I am missing something?

We all have different ideas of what the game is supposed to be. HOWEVER only FD says what it is. Take it or leave it, its not that much money spent. For what you "lost" in hard eaned dollars you want to make up for in nasty posts? Carry on...

I couldn't agree more. What gets me is not that there may be problems, but the absolute rude and condescending way some people go about trying to get help or resolve an issue. I guess I grew up in a different time, a different place, where manners got you further than threats. Calling the game a POS because you can't dock doesn't deserve comment. But that seems to be the only way some people can approach the issue.

I come here to get a sense of the community, try to learn a bit, but quite frankly it seems to be heading the direction of so many other forums.

So I'm with you. Let's grow up a bit, put on our big boy pants and try a little respect. It may just get you more than you think.

+1 for your comments
