I found out by accident that you can open/break the hatches by flying into the them at high speed.
Now if I have a decent shield that can absorb the hit is there a downside to not hacking but breaking the hatches?
Because if there isn't it saves me having to bring recon limpet controller & limpets.

I'm genuinely interested Mr Kelly, did you see my question up above? Is this just installation sites, or megaships too? Cheers.

You can do the same thing at planetary installations to take out generators without it counting as an assault. If you're quick about it and get yourself a good angle to charge in from outside the trespass zone, headbutt the thing and get out again, you can even get away without the trespass fine/bounty too.

edit: in fact, does ramming the cargo hatch aggro the megaship? If not then it's a better option than hatchbreakers.

I didnt understand at first but yes I found this at installation sites. I have never seen a megaship with maintenance hatches.

@OP:

The facilities with maintenance hatchers also double as CQC assets. In CQC the idea is to shoot them and tunnel-fly to break line of sight with an enemy, but if you don't shoot it, you pancake, and since you're in light fighters for CQC, you're generally toast if that happens.

Inside, you sometimes find these power conduits as well in the tunnels which serve as more obstructions.

In the game, i've found one or two where the tunnels also lead to an "internal" cargo hatch which can be hacked for cargo, though it's the usual dump cargo.

It's so frustrating salvage/steal missions aren't in-part hooked around these mechanics in derelict/live installations, respectively.

Maintenance hatches not Cargo hatches folks.

Yeah you can shoot the triangle too but sometimes get a bounty and sometimes not so dunno whats up with that. Presume you are crashing into the triangle or are you crashing into the actual 'Limpet Docking Point', if so thats new to me but deffo worth a try.

Proviso - Some Tharg bases are opening up for my SRV without any UA or Tharg cargo and Im fairly sure thats not meant to be happening.

Theres one from a beacon that involves picking up an Escape Pod and delivering it but it goes nowhere seemingly. Presume you know about that one so yeah, more like this would be nice for sure.

Btw I've also seen maintenance hatches installed at 90 degree angle allowing free access aswell as regular angle but slightly offset from the tunnel openings.

here's one of those bugged hatches at 90degree angle.
