hacking ships by griefers

am I being really dumb here but having been griefed I now find according to some posts that peeps are hacking the ships controls weapons shields ect to do it
isn't that making a mockery of the whole game I signed up for whati thought was going to be the best space sim ever and on release everyone was going to be given the same ship and same credits after that well its up to you

now im guessing there will be commanders with all the toys from day one hardly going to be fair is it

if all this is true how are FD going to deal with it

I was going to put a poll at the end of this but if its true I might as well wave bye bye as there is no kudos in winning by cheating

Don't worry, cheats and exploits will be fixed. If you find someone doing it, or have information, ticket it and report to FD, so they can check it out and see if that's possible.

Hacks becoming anything other than v rare would truly spoil the game. I hope and am confident Frontier are all over it like a tramp on chips.

There were some exploits during the Alpha to get credits by using free tools easily available online which change variables in memory while the game is loaded. Those have (as far as I'm aware) been sorted now.

There was another exploit in Beta 1 which enabled people to quit the commodities market while purchasing things and make loads of free cash. That has now been fixed.

Things get fixed as we go along. Most of the security work is done at the end because the development process is not a stable platform.

Not aware of these cheats in the current build. Often people are quick to shout "hacks" when they are beaten by another player.

It's that age old argument, if you wanted a finished game. This wasn't the time to get on board sorry.

I wasn't moaning about the game it was just I was amazed it was going on I knew exactly what I was getting in to by buying the PB I looked at it as a chance to assist and learn the skills needed

The hacks (not cheats or exploits) i did were ticketed and not used since (at least not by me). And they were not tested against other players, there was no need to.
If there is noone checking for this kind of possibilities, they might not be reported and fixed before release.
What NOT should happen is, finding something and then "testing" it for weeks to get an advantage.

test -> reproduce -> ticket -> stop (untill the ticket is marked as solved...then you might check if it really is)

I don't think Frontier are taking this issue to seriously, im sure at some point an article will pop up on some gaming site saying that Elite Dangerous Beta testing was riddled with cheaters and hackers that ruined what would have been a great game.

I would like to ask FD to place a ban on players who continue to use the exposed exploits during each build,

sure if you find an exploit or are able to hack the code create a ticket and stop using the exploit. job done pat on the back for finding it now stop using it.

there is one thing even worse:
find hack/exploit, stop using it, don't report and keep it for yourself until release (hoping noone else finds it).

+1 agree entirely

Amen to that brother, +1

so as far as I understand its happening
and there are a couple of schools of thought
one the report it issue and let FD sort it out , fair play and a valid point it is beta after all
and the other is the dark side keep it to yourself and hope no one notices and become elite very quickly and brag about it
if this is happening with 8 systems and a few ships
*** is going to happen with a billion systems ?

me I just think it needs to be an open issue and if there are going to be cheats \hacks then let us all know and put the necessary controls in place

Take it for granted that there will always be players at every stage of any game that look for the easy advantage (hacks, cheats, OP game items)

Take it for granted that FD will close those exploits as soon as they are found and reported.

Also, understand that, by the nature of the beast (human deviousness and ingenuity), it is impossible to close all exploits before you let players in to the game. Some exploits need a decent population of players to discover them.

Also, this is beta. This is exactly why we are here in the game at this time, to find and report these exploits.

Whilst you can play the current incarnation as you would the final release, and not bother doing any testing yourself, you should not expect a problem free environment.

Finally, I cannot guarantee this, but there is almost certainly going to be a full wipe at some point in the future before final release.

if all this is true how are FD going to deal with it

They are going to find them, ban them, shoot their dog and burn their house down, like they deserve.

Cheaters are in every online game, ED won't be any different. But hopefully they will have an admin team in place that can handle them in a timely manner.

Most of the ram hacks are still there.
FD know how to fix it because you can no longer give yourself billions of credits that way.
I expect munitions and bounty , kills etc will be closed using the same or similar methods.
Someone said they gave themselves infinite boost so you could just outrun anything, lol.
I wouldn't work overly much about it.
At the moment we are doing our best to "break it" in order that FD can know what to "fix".

You get cool emails from frontier asking how you got 137 billion credits....
:D

"I shot a really bad pirate"

In the A4 build using a simple memory editor, I could get unlimited missiles/cannon rounds/plasma shots, whatever credit balance I wanted, whatever bounty level I wanted.

I can no longer do these things with the simple editor (my skill at this is low), so FD are closing the loopholes, and have already locked out the more casual hacks.
I have no doubt that you'll need to be really good to fiddle your stats once the game goes properly live.

Feeling the need to hack a game in order to enjoy inflicting misery onto other people by cheating and gaining unfair advantage = such a crap pursuit in life.

It's NOT fair. It IS cheating. It WILL be found and fixed.

Think about this though... those who have gotten where they by hacking will lose it all in a reset and won't be able to get it back by hacking. In the mean time those of us who've done it the hard way will still have our combat skills learned from trying to survive against hackers... I think you see where this is going.
