Just to throw another element into dog-fighting, it would be really interesting to see system hacking incorporated. (I searched to see if someone has suggested this already, but didn't turn up anything, so apologies in advance if this has been brought up.)
Targetting sub-systems can be a great way to cripple your opponent, but I've noticed that most people seem to aim for the drive system or the power plant. This leaves a number of different systems that are targettable. There are weapons that could be fried, or life-support if you are looking to force a retreat, but I have found that ships tend to blow up before you can take out more than one system. This is an as yet under-utilized aspect of combat. Enter a system hacking module: Lock on to a system and shut it down or reduce it's efficiency for a period of time. Yes, you would have to keep a lock on the target, or perhaps aim it like a cargo limpet, but the results could be that the anaconda loses the use of a laser turret for a minute until it's own anti-hack software kicks into gear. This adds another level to setting up your load-out too. Maybe you don't get to take the point-defence system with you in favor of something that will help block hack attempts. I'm a fan of diversifying ships as much as possible so that any pilot can potentially be at a disadvantage and overtaken with the right build. Or have bragging rights if they manage to survive anyway!
