I done both. It wouldn't be a fair comparison because my telly is not very large but the Oculus Rift wins hands down. The size of the game is affected by the size of the screen when playing in 3D, whereas in the Rift everything is life-sized. I'm at one of those twin-boom stations at the moment and I have to crane my neck up to see the top of the boom.
For a fair comparison you'd have to compare an Oculus Rift to an Imax.
