Had the nerve to start exploring

Well, I've made the move. Arrived at California Nebula ( well as close as I could get there via navigation). 37 Jumps from home base HQ at average 30 LY jumps. Quite amazing to say the least but must say a tad lonely out there. Some systems had over 30 objects/bodies.

I landed on one one of the planets and took the buggy out for a spin but came back fast as I don't know how to re-fuel the beast.

Next stop trying to reach the Witch's Head Nebula..

indeed refuelling on the fly is not too bad, once you have the items needed for refuelling, just wait until it displays the fuel critical warning then select the right panel -> inventory -> synthesis -> Refuel SRV

Also good luck on your exploration adventure... Be wary of high gravity worlds and take some care when landing on planets with more than 1G and especially careful on anything over 2G's

zooming around in the SRV can be so much fun

If you run out of fuel you won't be able to re-board the ship.

This is no longer the case as they changed it a few patches ago. If you run out you can only drive around slowly and your life support goes offline, giving you 4 minutes of emergency air to either find some sulphur and phosphorous or re-board your ship.

Or wait until you completely run out while bouncing down a cliff. That's always fun.

Oh, that's good to know!

@OP - congrats. :)

Welcome to the club. Refuelling the SRV isn't hard. Find some rocks to shoot at (i.e. they show up in your scanner), scoop up the debris and use synthesis to create new fuel. Basic SRV refuelling uses Sulphur and Phosphorous, and that stuff is pretty hard to avoid.

Just: do it (and, if possible, also collect some materials for SRV ammo synthesis) _before_ you run out of fuel or SRV ammo.

As for spinning; what I like most so far is a smooth surface on a low gravity (up to 0.2 g) ice moon. You really should be able to swap the SRV's tires for skis - or skates.

One thing about refueling the SRV - you will find Sulphur and Phosphorous in abundance everywhere you go except on metal-rich worlds. Attempt no refuelings there. ;)

Went home to HQ and picked up 780,000 in credits for exploring :) I've also received notification for being the first to explore a few systems. Done my repairs (only 1,300 cr) and heading out to Horsehead Nebula via Horsehead Sector CQ-P 85-O. 34 Jumps for my ship. Back to the unknown :)

If you're going in that direction, check out Betelgeuse and Rigel too!

My first exploration tour was similar:

1 - Pleaides Nebula. Visit Maia and the rest of the pleiades sisters.
2 - California Nebula.
3 - Betelgeuse. You have to land on that second planet and witness the biggest sunrise yet. If you want to approach the first planet, turn off the shield and fuel scoop or you will be fried (a bit)
4 - Witch Head Nebula (by this point, Barnards Loop is already huge)
5 - Rigel. The most blinding, brightest stars I've seen so far. The second stars is even brighter than the first.
6 - Orion.
7 - Barnards Loop. No need to describe, you can see it from the everywhere in the bubble.
8 - Horsehead.

You won't regret it.

Thanks for that.. I actually tried Orion but could not plot a course to it. How do i go about getting there when no near sector navs are available? Oh and for Betelgeuse don't you mean turn shield on?

You can only plot 1000ly at a time, zoom out to orient yourself and then pick an area ~1000ly or less on the line between where you are now and where you want to go, zoom back in and plot to a waypoint.

No, he means off as a way of reducing your thermal signature, it gets hot that close to the big B :)

Exactly.

Shields does nothing out there, except make your ship hotter. Turning down the shield does wonders while scooping or getting near stars. Once you're out of the bubble, the shield should only be turned on when landing on planets.

When scanning / visiting the first planet of the Big B, turning off the fuel scoop also helps with keeping the ship cool, or less warm :) .

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses.. Had the Nav map not sitting in Realistic mode so couldn't select the systems. Currently located in the Orion Nebula.

Trying to upload a picture but keep getting invalid file every time even when it is a jpg and 333kb size

You can't upload to the site any more. You need to use a hosting site like imgur or photobucket then link to it
