Hah, more fun, less frustration
Bingo board broker minigame aside.
I’m quite content in my Elite Universe, Can take it as it comes, walk away when the schtick gets phoney.
Many players are also very happy with the state of the game /grind content creation; perhaps they’re very new or very seasoned players, but bottom line-
Many and most players are happy— the needy, ‘quality time’ whiners, like I was before the ‘billions’, are in the minority.
There are, have been so many sincere user suggestions. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, “don’t they see”!? “If they, couldn’t they- shouldn’t they”? I Made them too!
Some want a ‘Reveal’ of where the game is going While the others calmly, methodically enjoy the classic gameplay that has been consistent across all the ‘seasons’. Perhaps they’re the target Elite D players.
Elite D gameplay has been stable and consistent: a solitary pilot, unlocking ship abilities aka modules, earning more powerful ships and fighting, trading across an unknown INFormation Poor environment by design. Anything that breaks this mood strays from the stable game engine ability and is fairly difficult to implement.
I gather as much from comments made to and then by FDev.Toured youtubers on the World Wide Web, have you heard of... They talked to and about the non PR creators they met on tour.
The game is good as it is what it is, no, not Skyrim in Space, vehicle based combat and resource management- done. Buckle up Buttercup.
There will be no character animation, no ‘space legs’; you’d need a Kickstarter to fund that full on engine overhaul. I will not see you walking around the ‘verse- you can check the failed X3:vr development process / results to see why- google.
The game is better at what it does consistently than any other published property.
Stellar Forge vehicle based combat and resource management /Trade. With excellent VR and sound design to Boot!
I will play elite for at least one more full year, spending the odd $ on pricey skins and little bobble heads/ ship spoilers and fender flares; it’s relaxing with a cup of tea. I admit it’s ‘End game’ fleet owner billionaire play style, got no boss, stick your ‘missions’ where the sun don’t shine! and ‘Hmm, what’s interesting on the Galnet, Whoa, that’s a lot of work, what did the Thargoids ever do to me?’ sort of thing. But when I was a new player and things were unknown and fresh the feeling was the same, If passengers needed Domestic goods they should have packed a bag, where’s the eject button? Can’t take a scan, guessthose boots were made for walkin’. The beauty of the Sandbox game world.
Let Go and let lower insurance costs-
Again, I do not see huge space leggy, ship interior content additions; even over funded kick started projects are struggling to get to a stable 2018 AAA level of multi-layer player world detail and now new AAA FPS mod friendly VR properties are dropping 1-2 a quarter. So enjoy what we have, use the gold rushes and enjoy the Galaxy with (Thank the gods for it) the Stellar Forge . Use what’s around and try to make more of it. More play together, more sandbox, less relying on dev. Directions.
If your just starting and think there’s a big expansive future of new content take a look at the release history; make up a time line you’ll see what’s likely versus what’s possible. This game is mature, it’s the proverbial ‘old dog’. Let it lie and enjoy what there is; there’s quite a bit.
Set your ‘unlock bar/ progress goals’ to 70%, a gentleman’s B, or was it a C.
Set your ship purchases to 25 million and go discover the Galaxy- Eg. Cheap multicrew fighter capable Keelback with 40 LY jump, Diamond back Ex with 57LY before lightbweight Engineering, Dolphin , Asp, Vulture, Type 7 or up to the “costlier” Clipper, Federal Assault ship and Chieftain.
There is nothing wrong with Elites development direction other than some quality control issues and maybe, maybe they’re not totally open about upcoming content but what developer is that isn’t kickstarted.
There’s nothing wrong with - tracking progress bars while unlocking features.
You don’t require skills that involve following outside information to optimize random encounters. Relogging /Youtube goldrush Mat sources/Davs hope are player additions and not required to enjoy gameplay. If anything they’re undermining the developers intent and pacing.
I love the Stellar Forge, the VR, the tech sci fi feel, I’m enjoying my second exploration account.
Quality control of the best new bits, like multicrew is poor.
Like crime system implementation, we could have an off button for player and friendly fire and

Adding actual game playable content, versus additional rules. Yeah, that’s a bit of a stumble.
Still as I’ve seen with my new account and a friends-
Someone starting the game today could hit Youtube, this forum, Reddit, join a player group, do some informed (non gold rush even) credit farming and have 200 million in ships and decent rank and 4 key engineers in an easy paced 2 months - no more. 2.5, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 50.
Yes there’d be some repetition and Mats farming but if you limit yourself to the original Engineering, skip the “broker” mods it will still. be quite Fresh before the You hit 75% engineered ships- with a nice collection of sub 25 million ships, again, 75%, not all A rated, some D’s for weight and $$$- the new suped up engineering makes D’s like old original pre engineer A’s, right?
-oh, yes, silver mirror skin thermal hull armour not for you and A rated fuel scoops- what’s the rush, go around the block again and buy a C rated and an extra light fighter to park at a far off Station.
If you’re obsessing about the last % of optimized module- well then “if you won’t listen you’ll have to feel”. Have you noticed how the last 3-5 percent can take 3 rolls of Mats and even another for the last hair thin sliver percent- smell, the coffe, you’re doing it to yourself. The Forge is to big to spend your time at the Engineering Mats Slot machine.
For my beginner friend the main stumbling blocks were how insurance works/is a must, planetfall can be tricky when the gravity goes up, combat is NoT the ‘easy way’ to start financing bigger ships, Becoming Friendly/ allied is as important as the initial missions payout at a new station, VR can be distracting if your in a hurry, Materials sinks like Dav’s Hope and others are an integral part of the ‘middle’ game, surrender and boost.
Back to the Road to Riches, May it never run out.
