Ok well they have been very patient and have answered my questions directly. I had to ask for clarification on a few points. I dislike doing that as it sounds a little rude/aggressive but after a recent KS I really HAVE to.
In a nutshell.
1. They plan to have account based security. ie like Minecraft. You login once to verify and then for SP offline you never need to login again unless you want updates.
2. For Multiplayer of course you need a valid account to go online. 100% fair in my book.
3. When I asked them if there are limits in installs after a few more emails to and fro as I had to get a yes or no answer at the end.....their answer was akin to the minecraft model so that's good news too.
4. Now my biggie...third party clients (Steam and others) they said they have no intention on going to steam at all and they wish to run it like minecraft so that is good news. Now of course because of recent events I had to clarify that "no intention" because there may be none now and might be one later. Anyway the upshot was that backers WILL be looked after if they were not happy with this. oh and yes.......I did specifically ask for Alpha/Betas/Final not being steam only.

I'm not falling for that one again.
So now I am happy and I am backing Hadron's Forge ! It looks FANTASTIC.
In the end a KS and Business needs to do what it thinks will sell and get mass coverage. Obviously. I have no issue with it and I support that fully. Providing potential buyers/pledgers have the information to make an informed decision as to whether it is appropriate to their needs there are no problems. Unfortunately sometimes these things may not be possible to answer but it may still need to be for some potential backers.
