Half Life 2 VR finally.......

Is this the same team that made the Half Life 2 VR mod back in 2016?

I imagine this is a much more polished product, but it does seem weird looking forward to something I played 6 years ago

not sure if it is the same team or whether someone else decided to do it since that group were not releasing it tbh. it looks a full fat VR version however unlike the bare bones version I played on DK2

been a long time coming but finally.... next month beta release

I’ve been hoping someone would mod the HL2 campaign into HL:Alyx but this seems it will scratch the itch just as well - I wonder if this will open up other Source engine games to VR?

I really enjoyed playing through the main game and Episodes last year on my laptop with a few graphical improvement mods thrown in; a much better experience than my original playthrough on the Xbox way back when.

Not interested.
Good for you. I am though; love Half-Life. Couple of my friends played a Garry's Mod addon that let you play HL2 coop in VR, but this was before I got a VR headset of my own... I want to give it a go with them at some point...

Most Source 2013 branch games (including the Source-based HL games) already support it with the -vr command-line parameter - in fact there's a really annoying bug where some mods will always open SteamVR when you enter the options menu. Whether they play well would be a different matter though...

I tried that with HL2 a few years ago and it was pretty dire 😅

Not interested. The most overrated game in videogame history.
was your mouth out after that filth ;)

not all games are for all people even genre defining titles.like half life.
if I was to list all the massively popular titles I just don't see the appeal in I would be here all day

Overrated? It's a pretty good shooter mechanic-wise and has a quite exceptional narration and choreography for a shooter. I still rate Portal 2 highest but HL2 is pretty good. And it kick-started Steam.

Future plans look pretty good:
Only the Episode support and texture overhaul would be something I’d look for, though the existing texture pack I used for my last playthrough might help with that.

And it kick-started Steam.
I remember the rage at having to connect to the internet to play a single player game that came on a dvd, then download loads of updates at 2004 internet speeds, and download this thing called steam that basically had nothing else on it at the time and seemed pointless. It took like 5 hours or more to get it installed and playable

Yeah, I had to carry my computer to office.
In the end it transformed distribution utterly. Most brick and mortar removed media frommlm the shelves - not just games. Movies, music - they all moved to digital distribution, too.
Many platforms tried, but Steam was a success. And HL2 played a part in that.

If it hadnt been Steam, I'm sure we'd have another big platform instead - ther big pubs tried their own, mmlaybe it'd be a more gateeed one.

I’ve just had a (mostly) fantastic hour in Half Life 2 😁

Everything seems to be working well with the exception of movement - it’s a bit too floaty, with the joystick gap between slow creep and full sprint being about a hair’s width 😅 Makes Gordon into a bit of a bumbling fool as small accurate movements are a tad difficult to do.

Still, not much of an issue as I’m sprinting around the Combine at full whack most of the time.
