Hall of Shame!

I can't match the OP and I don't want to, but this happened a week ago doing a planetary search mission, I dropped out of Glide nose down, leveled out and rolled left 90o so I could see the surface, then I took a look at the Nav Panel to see if the search area had popped, Umm I thought, the surface looks to be coming up fast, I exit the panel a quick look ahead, Horizon still level then BAM.

Turns out the the Planet was 2.57G and I was likely going down a whole lot faster than I was traveling forward[haha].

I seem to be having a change of fortune, after last Saturdays fatal collision with that planet, I tried the same thing again a few days ago but survived with 45% Hull, ( in my defense I was try to defend my self from 3 adders 500m from the surface, disrespectful little snakes).

Now this huge slice of good fortune, I got interdicted by an Elite FDL right after jumping in (again), I took his Shields down, he took mine down, I was down to 63% Hull and he down to 39%, Last ditch effort before running, drop as many mines as I could and hope for the best, BAM he is down, now his last gasp salvo left me like this, no shields of course, Now That's What I Call a close shave. The only module that got killed was the DC.

A note to self, "MUST PAY MORE ATTENTION".

A-Python full of meta-alloys. *Landing* full speed - nose down on High-G planet.
T-9 full of high price cargo for CG (lost cargo and reward)- PP assassination - quick and clean...
A-Python - *I am overlord and I will kill 7 of yours*
AspE full of imp slaves - no fuel, no fuel scoop...

Once I was able to do some *mistakes*... station and sec opened fire on me, was able to enter the station under fire, turn around in the middle of laser show, go outside and run away - in a Python...

It's quite sad, but my biggest loss is a mere 6mil....

And that was from accidentally landing my Python on a skimmer.
In a planetary base.
Which was already hostile to me.

Heh. Not lost another big ship yet.
Plenty of little ones though.

Can't remember the amount (beer-blurred-brain to the rescue)...

Had a very tasty smuggling run to complete, BIG fat juicy payout, taking a big load of <no idea> in my Python. I know, let's fill up the hold with high value <stuff> that I know I can sell at my destination! Yeah, great idea CMDR, greed is good.

Zooming in on full boost, through the letterbox, all squeaky clean, I'd even got the docking request done in plenty of time. No worries, I'm an old hand at this, what could possibly go wrong!!

Engaging full smugness it was time to throttle back and deploy the landing gear... err... hang on... wasn't that the sound the ship makes when I hit boost...!?

Oooh... eyes set to full widescreen goggle... ...the end of the station's getting very big very quickly... errr...

...quick, full pips to... oh... full pips to the rebuy screen...

Oh, the "One More Run" faux pas...

I was up late doing trade runs. Said, One More. I mean, with my route, I was making close to 5k a slave...

Loaded my T9 to the gills.
Said, screw it, took out the shield gen.
Bought more slaves.
Made my run.
Lined up on the station.
Asked for permission to land.
4 pips to engine.
Lined up for the slot.
Sat back to let landing computer land for me.
My landing pad was the very last one in the station.
Passed it.
Smacked into the back wall.
Seems that for the Auto Landing sequence to take effect you have to *SET THE SPEED TO ZERO*

sigh...

Well, I had my biggest loss in the game ever last night, actually this morning!
Yep, after having a great night out, and let's just say enough beer that I wouldn't dare dream of using heavy machinery in RL, I thought it would be a good idea, at 4o'clock in the morning, to have just one trade run, before I called it a "night!", bad idea : (
The first warning sign should have been taking almost the full 4mins leaving the first station.
The second should have been spending the next 5mins wondering why the FSD wouldn't kick in, my hardpoints weren't deployed, then realising I hadn't retracted the landing gear.
The third warning sign should have been forgetting to throttle down in the jump, resulting in almost crashing in to the star on dropping out.
The fourth should have been an almost complete lack of ability to be able to line up with the correct escape vector and suffering massive heat damage whilst trying to line up with the target station instead.
The fifth should have been the several loops of shame on the super cruise approach.
The sixth should have been, almost, forgetting to request landing permission.
And the final one, should have been getting stuck in the toaster rack in a Cutter and not thinking to just quitting out before...
...BOOM!

Result:
Loss of 1 x A spec Imperial Cutter = rebuy 20.5 million
Loss of 720tons Imperial slaves ≃ loss 11.5 million
Loss of 3 month exploration data ≃ loss 4 million
Loss of unclaimed bounties ≃ loss 3 million

Total est. loss ≃ 39 million

Loss of pride = Incalculable

Thinking about this morning, maybe the first warning sign should have been, even thinking it was a good idea to try and fly an Imperial Cutter at 4 o'clock in the morning in the first place! : )

So what's your biggest loss?

R.I.P. Slaves ....

I hope you have learned the lesson, never fly when drunk...

That's tough loss to take but better in the game as opposed to RL.

But look at it this way now you have something to work for and 39 Million, you can make that back in a week or two without even really trying.

thanks, I've got it mostly back already, the Cutter can shift a nice tidy profit on a good route ; )

nothing in the magnitude of OP.

I think it was the first time i was pirated, probably in a T7. The pirate scanned and asked for 10 tons of Imp Slaves. Fair enough thinks I. However I clicked jettison all! it looked pretty cool on the radar! after scooping a few back up i gave it up as a bad job and a lesson learned.
