I created this thread to introduce(forum's search function didn't yield) another control method to fellow CMDRs and ask your help as a newby.
I know the eliteIR but I am used to HOSAM(or HOMAS) for situational awareness in space/flight sims. It is perfect in IL2 Sturmovik series and DCS and less so in some other games. In HOSAM you fly with your joystick and lookaround with your mouse without tiring your neck.
Since real pilots use both hand regardless of their main hand, I prefer and recommend mouse in the main hand but both can be used based on hardware limitations or personal preference. Having many buttons and switches on joystick's hat and thumb wheel and extra buttons on mouse are preferable. I use mouse wheel for throttle since I don't have a mouse with thumb wheel.
I preordered very late so I don't have access to gamma and don't know Elite Dangerous' control actions. I have keyboard and 12 buttons on joystick base(t16000m) for less important actions (like deploying landing gear) and for more important actions 11 mouse buttons, a hatswitch and 4 joystick button. Trigger and lateral thruster controls are looks like as obvious choices but I only played tutorials. What actions are important, which I should bind to stick's hat and mouse?
