Hands up all those who can't wait for 1.3!!!

Not sure I am overly interested in the powers aspect but I am eager for the many improvements that are coming with 1.3, can't wait for it!!! :D

Anybody else or am I alone in my eagerness? :cool:

Haven't had time to try the beta out i just hope they've improved the variation of ship groupings at USS and RES.
 
Is it really that bad? I've been holding off from playing until 1.3 came out...

No it isn't...it's pretty great actually. There are some specific (but important) aspects of Powerplay that needs tweaking in the short term and expanded upon more in the long term, but in general the update is pretty amazing. :)
 
No one can really judge until they try it for themselves as we'll all generally like different aspects of the game.

Hands up? No. But I am looking forward to trying it.

Not at all.

There are many good things in v1.3. The improvement in performance... changing power settings whilst in SC... the audio is even better... the Diamondback is a little gem of a ship... the AI (and auto-dock) is much improved... I could go on, but won't.

PowerPlay as a concept left me cold right from the start, and I can't comment on it as it doesn't fit with how I play Elite, so I've not bothered to try it in beta. But what is great is that I don't have to get involved with PP if I don't want to - so it has not impact on me - zero, zilch, nada.

No it is not. There are a lot of things making the game better than it is. Sound effects are better than ever, the small UI improvements are great. The new Galnet seems nice too. And so on.
Now I must admit that, ironically, the major Powerplay feature is the most controversial one. But it should not cast shadow on all the other merits of 1.3.: it makes the game better, but missions need to be integrated to the power fight.
 
After my initial disappointment at the way 1.3 was due to work in general (1 week turn based and not some sort of live incarnation), I'm actually really excited about it. I think there's a whole lot of scope for everyone, regardless of how you want to play.
 
1.3 adds a considerable amount to the game. The weakest part by far is the participation in the Power Play aspect of it however. It's essentially Community Goals. What it does do however, it change the way markets and legal systems work in very dramatic ways which should make trading, smuggling and the like more varied.
It's messy, but functional. Is it fun? Hmm not any more than anything currently in the game really. It just adds more of the same.
 
Personally I love all the things they did with the Powerplay Update.... except the 'Powerplay part' which needs some work.

Ui progress-bars look good, I like navigating by using the system map (which also seems a lot faster), I love the 'view' of the powerplay map and look forward to give mining another try. Also the new ships are fun to fly and sound great! Maybe they'll release that first while they continue to polish Powerplay.

I think quite cleverly it might do both? You dont have to do the whole PvP thing, but you will get the other end of the stick with the political consequences of travelling through controlled zones etc?

I've been playing 1.3 for the past 4-5 days and it's not a disaster. Sure it's not what I expected or hoped for but it's not all bad.
The Mining additions are okay, not amazing but ok. It's only the Powerplay that's a letdown to me.
 
They have also addressed one of the believed causes of stutter and my experience certainly feels better in that regard. Sounds are improved. There are quite few things outside powerplay - so yes certainly not all doom and gloom.

But Powerplay and one or two other things are being hotly debated...
 
Hand up. In general I've seen more "wow" comments, or constructive feedback on 1.3/PP than in previous upgrades. This could be a pivotal moment for ED. All of the superb hard work on the "core" of the game, the graphics, sound, ship design, outfitting, galaxy model, AI etc. seems to be coming together with a huge update to the gameplay mechanic. I'll be involved in PP because it's there, and represents something much, much bigger than the "old" simple faction alliances which don't really cross-relate. I still think we're two major updates away from what might be a "finished" ED, e.g. something that could be an Xbox release or withstand scrutiny in a proper review, but this is a giant step forwards. Really, really excited to know when my "PLAY" is going to turn to "UPDATE". :)

Correct. Even if you do not pledge your allegiance to a power, while flying about you will find systems changing their markets (some things become illegal or legal, some commodities are produced and consumed rapidly- prices affected appropriately), security status (ie more or less security ships) black markets appearing or disappearing, certain modules in outfitting will be cheaper or more expensive. The wise pilot will work his or her trade routes/ bounty hunting routes based on the new powers as well as the previous methods.
