Hands up - who's tried to use the keyboard?

I had the first Rift lenses from VRLense Lab. Sent back due to a barreling effect. The poor method of locking them in behind the Rift's frame made them fall out a lot. They contacted me when the new lenses went public and said the they solved the barreling. Never ordered them, though.
I still didn't like the way the locking looked, (when you tighten your Rift the faceplate flexes and the VRlens can pop out). I was always concerned about scratching the fresnels when this happens.
A good solution if, both issues have been fixed in the 2nd gen lenses.

I also Macgyver'd a second pair of glasses that works well.
The problem with mounting lenses inside the rift, is that when you remove your rift you are looking for another pair to read your monitor in some cases. It also gets cramp inside the headset and some can feel their eyelashes brushing against the lenses.

One could also take their Rift with them when shopping for glasses for best frame fit, get lasik or contacts. I hadn't worn contacts for years. Went with a monthly disposable just for Rifting - very comfortable and my favorite solution. ymmv

...PS - glasses suck, I have a mild headache from the pressure of the HMD pressing on the frame. I'll be getting monthly contacts, me thinks.

Should have gone for the Vive mate. Even has indents in the side foam for glasses... ;) Anyway... Congrats on finally sticking your head in to VR. :)

Yeah, I think contacts are the best solution, it would be better for my day to day life anyway, as glass just get in the way for me most of the time, not to mention killing my peripheral vision.

My glasses are pretty much what stop me from enjoying VR for more than about an hour at a time. Optometrist will be consulted early in the week, I think...

I got the rift second hand, with about 16 hours on it for under £300, no complaints!!!

I'll probably be buying new for Gen II.

Before I got this with the dimpled keys and began using VoiceAttack:

I put small drops of silicone on specific keys to orient my hand when in VR. Took me a while but I could find anything with practice. The Delux 46 key keyboard now sits between my HOTAS throttle and stick. I still use VA, but when the wife is watching TV I use the secondary KB to not disturb her.

Never tried to reach for the virtual keyboard. In my ASP and my DBE, the keyboard is pretty far away across the cockpit. Way out of arms reach, so there's never an instinct to reach for it.

It was right next to the throttle in whichever ship I was in, form memory (Anaconda, or Asp, perhaps?)

Looking around the cockpit is still fun. I'm searching for some in-joke text written somewhere...
