If you're a Steam user, you have always had the ability to add Elite: Dangerous to Steam to utilize its overlay features like voice chat and internet browser without having to exit the game. Steam has added a fairly nice music player to the overlay now which lets you play your personal music selections and playlists at the touch of a couple keys without having to alt-tab out. If you're like me and have your PC routed through your sound system, this little addition makes flying the big black a lot more entertaining. It's like having a music player in the console of your ship.
