sooooo you know how all these moons look alike, your just bombing around in your little buggy (first time properly took it for a run by the way and did some whale hunting) having loads of fun when u suddenly realise u can't remember where u parked your ship.

think I should have had it following me or something because it ain't here it ain't on the map and I can't find anyway of summoning it to come pick me up.

anything I can do other than self destruct?

Not sure what "whale hunting" is but to recall your ship goto menu 3 (the one you see when you look down) select the SHIP tab and select "recall ship". It's there somewhere.

To prevent anyone from going through MY SHAME.. I was DOCKED but still up on the landing pad of a surface base, when I decided I wanted to drive around. Deployed SRV, and you come out of a SRV airlock under the pad into the moon or whatever.. now I A: Remembered which pad number I was on and B: could see my hollow icon for my parked ship but couldn't figure out how to get back in through that airlock... and by then my ship was INSIDE the hangar.

The answer is request docking from the Base, and it will let you inside.

I guess I should do some 'hanging head' shame as well.
I was always driving 2km away from the base and then recalling my ship to get back to it.

Don't feel ashamed, I did the same thing my first time out and I'm sure several thousand others did too! The biggest problem I had was trying to find my ship that I docked. Didn't know I had to use a specific entrance. Thought my ship would be sitting on the deck so I was running around saying, "where the hell did I park that thing!".
