So the Feds hate me. That's established. I don't really konw why, but game mechanics comspired to make their attitude twards me Hosile. I must stress that I have (or rather, had) no outstanding bounties or fines with them. Yes, I have in the past incurred such, and promptly paid them at the earliest opportunity (ALWAYS within twenty-four hours, usually MUCH sooner).

So after much sucking up to them and lots of humanitarian missions, plenty of blue arrows to indicate I'm going in the right direction, they remain Hostile.

I decide to avoid Federation Space as it's a big old Galaxy with plenty else to do.

Travelling through their space to get from A-B is unavoidable, however, so when I'm attacked by NPCs who are NOT police, I defend myself. It's kill or be killed, isn't it?

Oh no it isn't. Taking out the Python who outclasses you in every way and just attacked you for no reason: that's MURDER!

Oh dear, thinks me, that's a bit harsh. Better go and pay off my bounty so things don't get even worse...

...Except that every Federation station I dock at shows me as having no criminal record. I have a big "WANTED" sign flash up on my dashboard whenever I enter Federation Space, with no way to clear it off, and trying to defend myself just reults in an even bigger bounty on my head.

If anybody's looking for further proof that the Reputation system in this game is broken, look no further.

I Think I just lost the will to play any more.

There is a bug brought on by the last patch. Log out and into the game. Bounties are staying on. I lost my ship to this so be careful.

Once you are on TSA's no fly list...there ain't no getting off of it unless you let them look into your nether regions

The rep system can punish you very hard, but it is possible to turn it around. It just takes a really long time depending on how you are doing it. The fastest way seems to be doing profitable trades in anything bigger than a Cobra.

Easiest way to get your reputation up with the federation is to bounty hunt, so grab a KWS and go kill stuff. Cash in federation bounties at platforms.

You messed up with all those crimes, eventhough you paid fines, is my guess.

I have had reputation system working perfectly, but on the other hand i have not yet done combat (because of bugs and missing features and so on).

Time to move to Empire, you can always go around Fed´s, it is a big space...

Btw, did you do anything for Empire too? Even exploring? Maybe that got Fed´s angry.

Ahem...

Might have been a tiny bit drunk when I wrote the first post (hence "hosile"

). I logged out to write the post and when I went back in the bounty had indeed vanished, even though I hadn't been given the opportunity to pay it.

Yes, I have been working for the Empire, but I can't get past Neutral with them either! Besides, where's the fun in avoiding the Feds altogether? I've gotten quite good at full speed docking now and it's fun to run the gauntlet. Got a shock the first time I upgraded to a Cobra though. I hit the Boost on the way in (fine in a smaller ship) and plastered myself all over the back wall!

I just wish killing someone in self-defence wasn't classed as murder...

Combat Rule 378: do not crash into the Anaconda with your shields down

So I get a new ship on the insurance, and they've kindly given me back my cargo and marked it as stolen! Obviously I failed my haulage mission when my ship was destroyed, and then the insurance company go to all the trouble to salvage the canisters and give them back to me:S

<Sigh> another fine to pay...
