Game Discussions Happy 25th birthday Frontier: First Encounters!!

Released Easter 1995, as the first product of the fledgling Frontier Developments. Best game ever!!

I didnt get to play this iteration of Elite until well into the millienium because I was still deep into Elite II on the Amiga back then. But, yes, it was great meeting the Thargies again and finding out they had not been wiped out after all. FFE3D still keeps the flag flying for this game of course and long may it continue! Great work AndyJ!
Here is Scott Manley with his review.
Edit: Here is a link to AndyJ's thread just in case this is your first time hearing about FFE3D. <link>

To be honest, I was really quite sad when I stumbled across that video on YouTube, not too long after spending months on v1.10 & massively reworking the planets & atmospheres!
It's a real shame Scott didn't drop by the forums to get a decent or WIP set-up first - at very least to turn on Steve T's lovely 3D cockpit panel! 😢

But - 25 years of FFE!

Hey, haven't they flown by!

As it happens, I've gone a little retro again for the next build & have been fixing the support for the bitmap cockpit & icons...

This is to include upscaled versions of the original artwork that I've created using ESRGAN AI.
There's a few little things to tidy up, but my jaw dropped at some of the details it was able to add to graphics that were displayed at 320x200 - here's an example:

😎

I guess that's horribly off-topic in this sub-forum though...

I wonder if DB has the original paintings that he could share with us? 🙏
