Happy Holidays?

Most MMORPG type games have events for different holidays.
WoW had celebrations in cities during Christmas and other major holidays..as well as other major game titles.

Do you think FD should do something similar?
Perhaps have a Santas space ships we can shoot to get specail drops or rewards?
Or anything of that nature...something to add some "life" to the game...?

What would you like to see FD do for their player base for the holidays?

Replace all the Salvage containers with Leesti Evil Pumpkins.

Paint all Police NPCs in festive paint schemes.

For Christmas, have a 'How the President Stole Christmas' CE, where you have to deliver all kinds of random goods to Mars High.

Same as last year, it was noted in passing.

How would Santas to shoot to get special rewards or drops fit in to the Game world?

Well...Perhaps, he can be labeled as a wanted "smuggler" ya know...carrying all those illegal goodies and toys...
Im not sure, but seems that egven in the future, they would still have some sort of annual celebrations.

Absolutely nothing at all, PLEASE.

If Santa makes an appearance, I will start screaming incessantly. I will laze Rudolph the Red Nose Idiot right out of space.
That goes double for Saint Nick. Light up that Yule log, that's enough for me. Preferably with a railgun.

If FD do something for Festivus, that will be a different story.

We have had Christmas and Empire Day

Christmas Celebrations Begin throughout the Federation and Alliance
Christmas celebrations and official public holidays have begun throughout Federal, Alliance and some independent systems.

In ancient times the date once marked the shortest day on Earth and developed into a key date for various ancient religions still observed by some. The now traditional Christmas celebration of commercial excess, parties and present-giving is in full swing.

In Imperial systems the focus of the present-giving celebrations is the New Year in the standard calendar, and of course Empire Day, the day after.

Emperor Issues His Traditional 'Empire Day' Message
In keeping with tradition the Emperor has declared today a national holiday celebrating the day in 2264 when Marlin Duval first landed on Capitol. He gave his traditional message from the throne room in the Imperial Palace, referring in general terms to another great year, and looking forwards to the next.

Observant commentators noticed a small mark on his ear - seen by looking at the image of his head from behind - that was also present in a clip recorded in the summer, suggesting this too was recorded in the summer.

These same commentators implied that the Emperor may be more unwell than is being reported.

No one was available from the Palace for comment, though one Senator (who did not want to be named) did point out that this had been pre-recorded to allow the Emperor and his family to have an uninterrupted Empire Day.

Just like the world today, not every nation or culture celebrates Christmas as a religious event or a overly commercialized period of excess
It is even call "the holidays" in some places
Extrapolate that out to over two hundred thousand settled systems another thousand years in the future?

I'm not sure the game needs any Christmassy stuff, but if I had to suggest something, maybe Christmas "parades" of capital ships (and others) around the Sol and Achenar systems on, say, Boxing Day.

And for holidays generally, maybe racing events around courses marked out with rings (is it Star Fox I'm thinking of here?). So you dock at the course HQ, pay your entry fee and then select a racer from several classes (so there's a level playing field). You then get an unlimited number of tries at recording a fast lap. The fastest over the Christmas period (or Easter, or whenever) wins a trophy/X million credits. The rings could be lit up to resemble giant holly wreaths!

Definitely no criminal Santas, though... Ho ho no thanks!

Maybe take a closer look at the NPC's flying around and see what paint jobs they are using you might get a surprise ;)

I think a simple idea is to just have festive holiday decorations in the station interiors. For example, for the stations with the palm trees inside, decorate them with christmas lights or swap them out for evergreens for christmas.

Why?
Christmas is not universally celebrated
In real life and in the Game lore
The Empire doesn't celebrate it, neither a number of Independent worlds

No, No, No, NO and NO. I can't stand having these holidays rammed down my throat 24/7 from every angle. The same jingles on constant loop from the last year to the next. I have even got to the point that I was watching through some box sets of stuff I had not watched fully and I skipped every Christmas Special, I tried watching one and I had to turn it off it made me feel ill. So can't even say I have watched them in entirety.

The last thing I want to happen when I finally close my door and block all that madness out is to switch Elite on and have it shoved in my face again!!!!

So No!! That's from the extreme end of the argument. I don't know make it optional? Personally I would rather that put there time into something more constructive, all I want for Christmas is to repair my ship.

Well, you could just have them in the Fed stations then. I think it's a great idea - a nice bit of detail, easy to implement.

There was the Christmas tree bobblehead way back that replaced Toku for a while back in Alpha or maybe Beta (can't remember which think it was Alpha)

Welcome to your own justification for why this game shouldn't do holidays at all.
By that very same logic, you can apply it for every other conceivable holiday.
Not only that, but that very same logic applies in the real world as well.

And yet we still see decorations in every single Goddamn town...

I'm with you on Christmas being overdone generally... but you sound pretty weird :)
