Horizons Happy Landings On Achenar 3!

As you may have read, CMDR's have been challenged to land on Achenar 3 , a huge planet (over 15,000km diameter) that pulls 6.73G approximately. I would advise not to carry any cargo and watch your thruster down control or you drop like a stone! My attempt almost ended in disaster but a little finesse got me to touchdown. As you can see in the pic, the inhabitants of Brill Works, the only settlement, are a moody bunch. They don't like visitors and will fine you for your trouble. Perhaps they have the weight of the world on their shoulders? :) Just for good measure I've enclosed a view of Capitol, as seen from a visiting Federal Navy Fleet.

i had to see what the fuss was about, so its a nice seriously good G world..

I've seen 3.somethings G they can be nasty if youre not paying attension or unaware. 4.7 G was my last one , although i flew that safe its slighty more of the same.

Arc 3 however is real EXTREME!. a nice challenge you'll see when you encounter it.
Firstly watch how in orbital cruise the fall is on alt as you cruise nearer. In regular flight after cruise mode it will be quite similar.
From here i'd advise dont thruster down, you need down,, just fly forward/side/back without the nose up. goes down quite nicely,, thruster down will hurt even a few meters off the ground.

Now youre in youre SRV if youve got this far. climbing modest slopes may be difficult unless you have a run up, dont jump off the ground mind you, it can seriously hurt a hard drop of a few inch's.
Unlikely though as you will hug the ground and dive down any gully like a magnet on a Huge metal gravitational thingie.

Unsure what materials i will find but will be nice fun exploring with a good element of danger. Repairs on the ready and thinking will need a few.

As for the outpost on this planet Brill Works. Woah, Not sure what to make of it. Better than looking for crashed ships/SRV's and finding endless tea.
uploading Video etc 2hours
:/
Not a port, no market or pads to land. multiple data sources but some timed limit going on. Scanned some or all not sure but it sure as hell made a lot more fun of horizons than driving about every obscure place looking for barnacles.
i'll wait till i crash into a barnacle and it reports me, its the barnacles time to search for me i feel

I really wonder what the residents of Achenar 3 look like, considering they make a living at g-forces between a Formula One racing car and an Apollo capsule on reentry. Just standing on the surface of Achenar 3 would make most of us pass out.

2 hours upload for a drive about the only landing site. meh. its interesting place though. No idea what its about but a death trap to get to.

Driving around on the surface so far i'd describe like being a very obese sumo wrestler on ice skates skating on some hypothetical ice pond on a black hole due to gravity.
Wary if you jump off any slight hill, but unlikely due to gravity as you drop on the surface like a magnet skating on a air hockey table, but when you do take off 67% hull after a brief takeoff of less than half a metre.
Any slightly high gradient hill will stop you in tracks and falling backwards , speed to overcome the little bumps etc, like a sumowrestler on a icepond of a black hole.

Tip:

When landing on High G planets, use the main engines to control the decent. i.e. the big things on the back of the ship, once you touch down, use the thrusters to right the ship, at most you might knock out one ring of the shields.

Been there, managed it with a stock Sidewinder (didn't want to crash my explorer ASP Again...). It went well except for the last 50 meters, as the shields can tell).

I accept your challenge, Achenar isn't that far from where I am. How hard can it be to land on something with a little bit more gravity? /famouslastword

OMG - My beautiful Clipper!

At 1km above Achenar 3, it hung in the air in much the same way that bricks do.

My A6 thrusters couldn't possibly support her in 6.7G....in a panic I'm pressing boost, but my gear is already down, and so we dropped hard and fast.

I'm lighter now....to the tune of 4 million credits.

Rest in pieces old girl.

Be warned commanders - if you're after Yttrium, find it somewhere else.

You kinda necro'd this topic mate. Anyway, landing on high G planets is a non issue, you can set thrusters to use a analog output - either through flight landing over ride or alternate flight controls in the options menu. Doesn't matter what ship or thrusters you have, landing won't be a problem.

I posted a video a few months back, vertical thrusters are assigned to an axis when the gear is down, allows me to hover and land smoothly no matter how high local gravity may be.
