Happy new year from the Jellyfish nebula (an exploration update)

Happy new year to everyone. :)

Still trying to reach the fringes, i've managed to complete the next leg of my trip and arrived at the Jellyfish nebula, literally minutes before 2014 faded away.

A few shots from the map location and the approach run for the interested viewer.

Apart from being pretty (i guess all nebulae are), the place is home to a Neutron star, first time i found one of these.

So that made it worth the trip even more.

and another cockpit shot from inside the system:

All the small planets at that last star are rated as "highly valued" for mining. Together with the neutron star and the other objects, this system should fetch a decent price at the cartographics shop.

Going to spend some more time in the nebula tomorrow, and scan a few more systems before moving on.

The next leg on the route is to the monkey head nebula, taking me yet further towards the "edge".

Time for a final drink before hitting the bunk then. :D

Happy New Year all, Federation Mid-shipman CMDR Aszrayel Lawgiver. May you travel safe in the space lanes.

May as well keep using this thread.

Monkey Head Nebula reached, the most "southern" nebula as far as i can tell.

Mostly scenic pics this time around, these first few are "belt shots", taken in the Hypuae sector on my way to Monkey Head:

After having visited the California Nebula, the Trifid of the North, Jellyfish Nebula and Monkey Head, there are no more landmarks for me to target now.

I picked a grid line, and will head further south along that line towards the edge.

Nice pics there. With a name like "monkey nebular", well, why wouldn't you go there:)

I wonder how long till all the nebulars have been visited and explored by someone

random question: how are you attaching your screenshots? I've tried to post some from my exploring, but even my standard resolution ones are above the file size limit for the forum.... are you using a program to change the file size, or am I just missing something on the forum?

The trip is still ongoing, this is my first major exploration outing.

So far i have nothing to show for other than pictures and a couple of entries in the "record breaker thread"....for as long as that may last anyway.

I'll update this thread up to the conclusion of the journey, including a profits debrief.

I'm uploading them to Imgur and link them straight from there, never had a problem.

Monkey Head looks awesome. Where to next ?

Hi again, Groovez.

Primary goal of this trip has always been to reach the "edge" of the galaxy.

I intend to go as far "south" as system density and jump range will allow me.

So, that's where i'm heading.

Rough day at the office.

A brief loss of concentration cost me 16% hull, and i've hit a brick wall of nothingness 8.700ly south of Sol, nothing to plot to...gets better around the 11.000ly mark, but will have to "go around" to get there.

And that would be several thousand ly worth of travel.

For now i have to backtrack several hundred ly to reach a higher system density area again.

Once i've done that, i'll have to spend some serious map study time before making a decision, not too upbeat here right now.

Ouch m8 that's horrific  I'm 8000ly's out with my hull @ 89% . I told myself I'd turn back from wherever when it reaches 60%...mistakes, tiredness , clumsiness can and will happen

Hang in there bud.

Thx, SK.

Yes, something was bound to happen sooner or later. We're humans, always does. ;)

I'm realist enough, never expected myself to have a flawless run.

Gonna take a break for now and clear my mind, no point in making a decision right after a setback.

You hang in there too, and watch that hull. :)....60% rule sounds sensible.
