Greetings fellow Commanders,
ok, ok, i'm a few days late, but in my defence I was busyplaying testing the power play beta...
May 30th, 2014, was a special day for us premium backers. Much of the core gameplay that we have now was available back then, and it was awesome (it still is). After having seen a steady decline of true PC gaming, and
a complete underutilization of advanced input devices, it is a glorious thing to see joystick support (or more general input device support) at such a height. From a technical standpoint E
is already a masterpiece, and
all coming space-sim-like-games will have to live up to this level.
Of course there are things I would like to see (passenger missions, as one example, and faces on the BBS as in Frontier/First Encounters), and sometimes it's hard to be patient, but I can feel that there are still great things ahead of us. I'm looking forward to the CV release of the Rift, currently playing with a single monitor and head tracker (and in darkness). I still sometimes find myself flying in a planetary ring, turning of the engines, and just stare and listen.
As for the premium beta experience, I distinctly remember the first time trying of flying towards a station in supercruise, not knowing that you had to exit supercruise near the station, so I flew left and right, up and down, damn, where is that station? (No small dot visible on the orbit line back then). On my first landing I overshot and turned around, and didn't know you had to face towards the endcap (unless your pad was reversed, which was an issue back then).
Anyway, I just wanted to say I have never been this involved in any game, nor have I ever played a game for such a long period, let alone for this many combined hours. I still visit the forums on a daily basis and I rarely play any other game. Kudos to FDEV, from the amount of hours played I feel I owe you (yes, I have already bought skin packs, thankyouverymuch).
Bottom line: in my opinion E
will shape the future of gaming just as Elite did in the 80s (and boy was I excited as F:E2 was released, a teenager at that time).
see you all out there,
Commander Benderson, ranks: Master, Merchant, Ranger
P.S. I bet the joystick manufacturers are happy, too!
