Happy to report, all is well.

Some people may have seen a few of my threads about frustrating controls, and i am happy to report that those issues have been solved.

I managed to get my controller working properly in the right mode that allows for its supporting customization software to function, and after lowering the sensitivity (a lot) i can now fly properly, and let me tell you this game feels great!

Before, i managed to complete most of the missions, each time by the skin of my teeth with 30% hull or lower.

Now, i have gotten through the first 5 missions without ever dropping shields (have not had the time for the other missions)

i love how this game is setup (still not a fan of the limited yaw, but i can continue to deal with it) having to constantly adjust my throttle to different situations, managing my power distribution constantly to get on top, its fairly satisfying and wonderfully in-depth, i cant wait for standard beta to start now!

something does worry me though, the fact that getting controls to work properly took this long might make the game hard to get into for many, but i don't think its anything that a bunch of desperately needed in-game sensitivity sliders cant fix (and a relative pitch/yaw setting for mouse users that does not currently exist)

For those that helped me figure out the finer features of my controller, thanks your help was invaluable!

For those that assumed that i was just mapping my buttons wrong...well, that was not my issue but thanks for trying :)

Glad to have helped (I hope). I agree entirely that it would be useful to be able to set simple sensitivity curves in game. IMO being able to tweek the sensitivity makes a lot of difference tp the viability of game pads as a control system for ED.

it certainly does, i had been considering getting a HOTAS to offset the frustrating controls before i figured this out, and the cheapest option would have been $70 (including shipping)

$70 is a LOT of money for a bulky controller that will only work in a select few games, and since i also intend on playing star citizen and No Man's Sky, a HOTAS would make it rather inconvenient to switch between flight and shooter modes.

either way, i'm glad that i no longer need one.

This game has a very flight simulator feel, and every good flight sim needs the ability to set deadzones and sensitivity curves. ED has the deadzones, now it just needs the curves.

Probably worth looking at something like a razer nostromo/tartaurus/orbweaver or logitech G13 style gamepad - you can get a lot more keys immediately under the fingers/thumb of one hand than a standard keyboard and should be useable most games. I've got tartaurus which I was initially using for ED but have now moved to a CH throttle pro, the tartaurus did a pretty decent job though.
