HARD POINT ENGINEERING

What if you could switch out one of those class 1 hard points on your Chieftain and upgrade the remaining class 1's to class 2's. Or increase your module class size(s) by losing a hard point.
Give it a thought. Might be Monumental or cause the end of the universe as we know it.

They are class 1 and class 2 because a class 2 is larger, you can't engineer it to be larger because it's part of the design of the ship, and you can't move them around to combine them because, well that's also part of the ship design.

Or they licence the Tardis tech from Dr Who, and then this would be possible and then the larger Hard Point can fit as long as there is enough room to fit the larger hard points cover... and if we going down this route, then we can can infinite cargo space on all our ships as we no longer have internal space restrictions...

You could probably fit three Class 2 weapons in a Class 4 (Huge) hardpoint (and so on down the sizing charts). Size of the in-game models would probably fit, and the damage/DD/power numbers are reasonably close.

Except the module system in ED doesn't work that way and never will despite almost constant requests over the years to be able to split large modules up to fit multiple smaller modules.

They'd probably need to create a module specific to each "triple" hardpoint.

Thanks for your responses. I was overcome with a need to rid my (much loved) Chieftain of those penalized class 1's for something more practical. I wouldn't want to harm the integrity of the entire game just for one player's happiness. What exist in-game is what exist.
