Ships hard-point upgrade?

Any possibility of adding engineers who can mess with the size of certain hard-points for further customization?
There are a few ships that I'd love to fly but their hard-point layout keeps me away from doing it. For example the mamba: probably the best looking ship (IMO), great speed feeling and awesome for jousting fights but lacking in dmg delivery compared to other medium sized ships due to the 2 small hard-points, which massively limits the kind of guns you can fit in. Sure I could go with the fer-de-lance, but I'd like to avoid the "let's use the meta combat ship and problem solved". I'm ok with giving up some agility in exchange of speed for the sake of play-style variety.
 
No hardpoint tinkering available. But the Mamba is by no means damage limited, on the contrary. That one huge and the two large hardpoints dish out a ton of damage, and the two smalls are perfect for putting some weapons with engineered special effects there which help the overall build. It's rather the FdL which massively suffers when putting any utility weapons on it. You lose at least one medium hardpoint as main damage dealer, and that is noticeable. Without engineering the situation changes somewhat, as there are no special utility effects available without it. But even then the small hardpoints do well with some lasers in there, there is no size penalty against shields.

Engineering affects modules only. If the ship itself were alterable it would certainly be a game changer. Might be cool to see what kind of Frankensteins people cooked up though.
