Hardcore Mode Exploration

So here I was pottering about in the Norma Expanse (or at least I was with my alt. account), when I challenged myself to scan whole systems without using the FSS. Here's how I did it;

1. Turn on Orbital Lines
2. Jump into system
3. Honk
4. Use eyeball technique and orbital lines to discover planets
5. Surface Scan
6. ...........
7. Profit

Whilst taking longer (much longer) that a scan with the FSS, I found it much more enjoyable than the repetitive nature of using the FSS.

Yeah, the method is usually called parallax scanning / exploring. For even more hardcore, turn those orbit lines off (I keep forgetting they exist) No need for surface scanning via the DSS probes though, flying within a certain range of bodies will scan (just not map) them automatically... although finding POI signals via the DSS instead of the FSS does sound more hardcore.

I dunno, I find the orbit lines add a bit of detail to SC, especially when the gravity well lines appear around multiple close bodies

Yeah, I've done the bulk of my exploration with orbit lines turned off, since it feels more like empty space that way. But lately I've used them a lot, just to help me pick a direction to pull off from the main star before using the FSS. To make it simple, I have the toggle mapped to a HOTAS button now, so that I can toggle it back and forth while maneuvering. Best of both worlds!
