Harrerasaurus Is Not a Theropod♥

In a Recent reorganization of the dinosaur family tree in 2018 the paleontology community had discovered that the herrerasaurus and members within the family are not related to Theropod Dinosaurs, with a reexamination of their bones they are infact more related to prosauropods somewhat theropods maybe and of course sauropods in general showing convergent evolution in the ancient past, kind of like how the thylacine or Tasmanian tiger and the dog have similar shapes through convergent evolution but evolved from totally different ancestors as an example. This makes the herrerasaurus more unique than ever before not only just being the first Triassic dinosaur included in Jurassic world Evolution but also technically being the first of prosauropods included into the game as well. And I absolutely love this dinosaur even more Thx Frontier!❤♥❤♥

This will clear up some confusion about the herrerasaurus since my fellow gamers seem to not know that herrerasaurus is in fact technically a prosauropod and not a theropod confusing I know for a primitive dinosaur.

To be exactly accurate, Herrerasaurus is a very basal dinosaur that might be closer to either Theropods or Sauropods. The thing is, these are labels we put on what is basically a gradient. It's likely very close to the ancestry of both groups. And while Herrerasaurus keeps moving around in the phylogeny between labels, in reality this only represents a very small change.

Prosauropod is also not really a thing at all.
It's not a monophyletic group (as in a group that shares a common ancestor). Prosauropod is a term that's generally used as a catch-all for many early Sauropodomorphs. It's not an actual group of dinosaurs with a shared common ancestor. Just like the word "reptile" it's a catch all term that has little value in taxonomy.

It's likely not the last time Herrerasaurus will move on the family tree as it's simply very hard to tell where it belongs as most basal dinosaurs look very similar in their structure. Earlier studies generally placed Herrerasaurus at the very base of Theropoda or just outside the group. Even if the recent studies are correct in saying that it's more closely related to Sauropodomorphs, it's still likely outside that group.

So to be on the safe side it's likely best to just call it a basal/primitive dinosaur.

Most likely yeah but I said technically because I wasn't really going to stay full prosauropod, which is why I said technically it's close but not close enough.

Hi I know you guy's are talking about the Phylogeny of the Herrerasauridea my Favorites Staurikosaurus in that Clade, any way the Question I wanted to ask was how would you feel if Universal Changed the look of the Dilophosaurus for JW3 to look more Fossil accurate like the Mandibular Knotch being added to it's Skull and giving it it's Vestigial Fourth finger on it's hand's. your thoughts.

I'd be fine with it as long as they kept the iconic frills

Any changes for more realism would be a good change to me.

Ugh, please no... it's because of those ridiculous, fake frills featured in JP that every Dilophosaurus toy and game to feature Dilophosaurus gives them frills now. When fiction takes precedence over fact it always leads to trouble.

Well too bad, there not going to remove one of the most iconic elements of the animal.
