Has anyone ever decked out a sidewinder?

I am certainly a fan of the A Spec Sidewinder, still fly one as my main ship, generally have mine set up in a "multirole scout" set up. Looking forward to what we might be able to do with Engineers to tune the Sidewinder a bit further.

Played happily for many months with a Sidewinder. Gave up when the npc's were buffed and I found it started to be a struggle for an old man riddled with arthritis. Now I have my cheap and cheerful Cobra and the speed means I can almost always escape.

Their main drawback though is the complete lack of any escape ability from larger faster ships that also sport overwhelming firepower. Hopefully the Engineers will include speed enhancements for small ships. If so, I will definitely be flying a Sidewinder in Open in 2.1.

Chafff, small target, agile. Should buy you the few seconds you need against 99% of 'grief' commanders.

I love the Sidey, I often jump back into it so that I never loose touch...never forget where I came from!
Even all my bookmark-Sidewinders are fully decked out lol.

There was a crazy dude from Texas who, in the first months of the game, went to Sagg A and Beagle Point in a Sidey.

I would think silent running/heat sink would be better odds in PVP, but that's just a guess.

Then again most griefers who would attack sideys couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with fixed weapons. So maybe you're right?

Escaping NPCs is trivial even in the slowest ships.

OK that's it, new challenge. Live and die for a month in a Sidey in Open. Going to have to reward myself with a fancy paint job if I make it.

I played a nice little game with one. i started a new commander and went straight to a Hi RES to kill a few Anacondas to get just over a million credits. Your combat rank depends on how many ships you kill. That's why I chose high value ships to kill. I wanted to stay Harmless, but have enough money to fully kit-out the Sidewinder. I then flew around the starter systems in the improved Sidewinder waiting for griefers to have a go. It was really good fun, though I was surprised at the number of commanders that wanted to help me rather than kill me.

I went on a spending spree and bought many of the smaller ships I didn't have and the Sidewinder was one of them. All of my ships are fully equipped and A rated for what I might use them for except for maybe military armor on some of them and you probably don't want it on all ships due to weight and maneuverability. I like the look of the Imperial Eagle I just picked up and the Courier. Couldn't find the iEagle with a 15% discount anywhere so I think it is the only ship I have that I paid full price for. I haven't flown the Sidewinder in a very long time so it will be interesting to try it out again.

I sometimes jump into an a rated sidey, complete with hull reinforcement, and cruise around starter systems, and wait for a
CMDR who like killing newbes to jump me. They are so confident they don't bother to scan, expecting to fight a basic sidewinder. Most times I win. VERY SATISFYING!

once I got jumped by an adder who waited for me to fire, so he wouldn't get a wanted status, and when I just sat there he came at me full boost, and rammed me. lol he came off worst, then he opened fire, and I blew him away. ......smug grin!

Why do I have a feeling there's going to be many more winders at eravate in the upcoming days?
I have to try this, the winder is a fun ship...

after re-learning taking an eagle to high- and haz-res, i did the same with a "battlesidey". you'll miss the third weapon, but you can equip a kws AND chaff. and it is a lot of fun to earn 200% of your rebuy in one kill-steal from the system sec.

also great for training flying FAOFF.

there is also this guy on these forums who works on getting elite by flying a sidey only...
