Has anyone ever ended a jump through a star?

I've jumped a couple times to different binary star systems and had the secondary star so close that I thought I was going to crash through it. Last night I jumped close enough to a secondary star that my fuel scoop engaged and disengaged briefly.

So I was wondering, has anyone every crashed and exploded?

I went through a planet once in Elite, to do this aim at the planet and look out the rear view and slowly you will go to 0 altitude then it will go up again :)

I've never jumped right through a star, but I have bounced too close to a supernova, and that ended my trip real quick. [Sorry!]

Nope. i have been pretty close but just passed it.

And wondered what would happen if i hit the star. maybe the frameshift drive would protect the ship?

On another note, one time i had the game crash just as the ship was about to enter the system. when i entered back into the game i was in the system but so far away that i had to jump away and back.
So from this i would guess that the ship is actually in real space when passing the stars into the system, during the fast de-accalaration...

Well i do hope something would protect us xD

Yep, I've passed close enough for the fuel scoop to engage once or twice. It's pretty panic inducing; even once you realise you've survived the insertion, you sit frozen for a few moments with your eyes fixed on the temperature gauge to see if you're located between the suns and starting to burn up.

I've never heard of anyone ever crashing into a binary on insertion though, I'd hope the game's been programmed to make this an impossibility.

I jumped once between stars so close together that I started overheating right away. Had to fly out of the way to cool down. Took quite a big deal of modules and hull damages. Never heard of anyone jumping right into one, though, but that's my biggest fear now on my way back from sagittarius.

I've flown through a star, fuel scoop on, and stopped 3LS past it and 0.2LS before the neutron star it was paired with.

SAMBURITJA

Never going back to Samburitja. Just a regular day last week, was taking garrison supplies from ALD HQ to Tewa (or whatever it's called) in my Python, on my way to Winters space for some undermining Rampage.

First it looked like a stutter (which I rarely get) or a double take, I swear I zoomed through the 1st star and the 2nd loomed into view at about 2ls in front of me. So now my heats 70% (Python exits jump at around 50%) and climbing fast; there's a large star in front of me, and I'm sitting in the corona of the one behind me. I always exit jump with throttle at zero (had some close calls previously).

I give a squeek, try to figure out what's going on, and as I look right I can see the gravity lines of the star behind me at about 2 o'clock right...so I'm in the gravity well. this is not not good, not good at all.

I throttle up and she slooowly heads towards 0.1C while I veer to the right to aim between the gravity well of the star behind me and the coronal mass of the star in front of me.

100% Sparks fly, 120% smoke and sparks, 150% still not broke 0.1C; 180% and I'm finally moving over 0.1C and she starts cooling down.

Hull minus 4%, modules all pretty much cooked; it took me 4 minutes to get my heart-rate back down to normal. Later I found the system to earn me 60K in scans...totally not worth it. Fun fact is that it has bases in system so NPCs must cook regularily there :)

Things I learned? The scanner is your friend, it'll show that killer mass behind you (I didn't think to look until well after my 20s of terror).

Thanks for posting, repped!

The 1st video shows the "double-take" well and the third video shows the 20s of terror well :)
Looking at them makes me re-evaluate how it'd react in future, forget the scanner (if it ain't scanned it won't dhow) and gun the engine as soon as I see the double take..like you did in the videos, so thanks.

This one is close to the situation OP describes....

Wow. That looked like you wound up inside the star then were pushed back by the emergency drop. Arguably a bug, but a fortuitous one.

God, that last one! Coming to a stop between the surface and the prominence. Brown trousers time and no mistake. This is the worst I've had, passing through the edge of one star, but it's tame compared with those.

I once ended up in a star during an interdiction. Droped out of SC to have my cockpit explode around me. I managed to get the temperature down with about 20% hull left.

I also ended up in a space station once, dropped out of SC right inside the infrastructure. I think they fixed that bug during Beta though. was fun though.

Just happened to me a few days ago. Jumped into the system directly through a star, heat levels jumped to 100% and I dropped from SC. Ran it back up to 110% high waking out of the system, but only took 1-2% module damage. DB Explorer shows its quality.
