So far I prefer these umbrellas over using the elephant grass, which has to stick out a little above the ground in order to work. These umbrellas (North African picnic canopy) can be completely hidden under the ground and still prevent the peafowl from getting over them, but you need a lot of them and they need to be packed close together:
Hopefully this paints a clear picture of what's going on! And maybe this could help someone. This lets me have peafowl walking freely around the zoo entrance. You can even place these things under entrance fee gates, and guests can walk over them but peafowl cannot. But it's an awful lot of umbrellas, so if anyone knows a better item to use, I'd love to hear it!
