Has anyone tried Ryzen 7 5800X 3D? Any better for VR ED

Thinking it's getting close to upgrade time. Has anyone upgraded from a CPU similar to mine? Ryzen 3600X to 5800X 3D?

If so, how did you find it?

Thanks!

Hardly likely your pc will run games much better unless you have a top end GPU (and thus a huge CPU bottleneck atm). I would not bother with the 10-15% extra CPU performance for ~33% price increase over the 5800x

Also why go from Ryzen 3rd gen to 5th gen? Even 3rd gen Ryzen will have no problem running 90% of games

Thanks for the video I will give it a go.

I'm giving my wife my current cpu mb RAM because her cpu just isn't cutting it in VR with the 1070 which I was using before my 3080ti so I know it is the cpu

I would rather spend that bit extra so I don't get buyers remorse

Ryzen 3600x to a 5800x3d should be a noticable boost in games. The x3d went on sale not long ago for 300-330 usd. I am waiting for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, I expect they will be as good if not better than the previous sales.

For games the 5800x3d should be much faster on average than the 3600x, as long as you have a good to very good recent graphics card. I cannot seem to find any gpu scaling charts for the 5800x3d, but they should be out there somewhere to help guide you.

I recently went to a 5800x3d (from a 5800x), used with an RTX 3090 and Varjo Aero @35ppd. My benchmark/aim is to get 90 fps in a hazres (VR low), and this is now very smooth (in Horizons), but requires FSR in Odyssey. I did do a 2D benchmark, and I went from 120 fps with the 5800x to 240 fps with the 5800x3d. I don't really trust that though - double the fps is too much, and it might be some game engine artefact. So, without a good baseline, all I'd really say is that it does feel smoother in VR, once you get the GPU frame time low enough. Previously, the CPU frame time might spike up a bit, and that's now gone. But, I wouldn't bother without at least a 3080/90, otherwise you are always completely GPU limited.

However, in MSFS 2020, my fps went from 79 to 115, so massive increase there. Very much worth it for that.

I'm happy with the boost - you can sell the 5800x to offset the 5800x3d cost of course. Before changing my whole system, I want to see what any 7000 series 3d chips are like...

Ryzen 3600X to 5800X 3D?

The system I normally play on, though only rarely with my WMR head set, has gone from a 3900X, to a 5800X, to much faster memory on the 5800X, to a 5800X3D and I saw significant improvements each time.

If your GPU is ever less than fully loaded, the 5800X3D will help, and probably a lot in some areas.

I did do a 2D benchmark, and I went from 120 fps with the 5800x to 240 fps with the 5800x3d.

This sounds like you left vsync enabled. At non-GPU limited settings, a 5800X3D can easily be 30-40% faster in EDO, but not 100%.
