Has anyone tried the PIMAX 4K VR Headset ?

This VR headset looks very interesting and is currently on sale.

  • It's 4K (2K each eye) so there's no screen door effect.
  • Earphones are included.
  • There's only gyroscopes (so there's no forward and back motion - it's like a headtracker, not like a Rift or Vive).
  • There are no special handheld controllers.
  • It's only 60 fps.
The limitations aren't that bad, if you're like me: The only game I care about is ED. Apparently, the 60 fps limit isn't that bad; it's not too nausea-inducing for seated games.

I'm really considering getting one. My main issue with the Rift and Vive is the screen door effect / low resolution.

Has anyone here tried one of these?

I'd wait for the acer/lenovo/etc headsets this xmas. They have inside-out tracking, native SteamVR support (await more details to be sure!), higher resolution than Vive/Rift and cost about the same. Biggest drawback is the drift forcing you to calibrate every few minutes if you're unlucky. Such a drift was already a major pain when I used HT, in VR it is really not cool.

Thanks for the feedback! Rep++

I (unfortunately) have experience with drift. I have a EDTracker Pro, which doesn't drift on its own, but I also use OpenTrack to provide head tilt tracking and OpenTrack drifts and needs recentering every 15 min or so. It's acceptable, but annoying.
