Has core mining been nerfed?

Hi commanders,
I have been away from Elite Dangerous Horizons for a few months,i need to earn cash for a fleet carrier however having spent the last 8 hours or so scanning asteroids in a Void Opal "Hotspot" and used 320 prospector limpets i didnt find a single ton of void opals, what a waste of time and effort,i will re-fit my ship for Painite mining as this still pays well.. :(

it seems to me sometimes there hot sometimes there not
if I don't find any within the first 15 min of pulsing I move on to another ring or spot
or like you say go fa Painite
I don't think its been nerfed since the big price drop nerf

Platinum is better than painite.

thanks for the reply guys. I visited 4 different locations with absolutely no sign of the mystical void opals,i retire permanently from core mining...blast mining pays infinately better. :)...and so does killing! ahaha

I'm making about 150 mil per hour overall doing pirate massacre missions, which is significantly more than mining. You can get about 500 mil for the missions and 100 mil for the bounties in a 3hour session, though you have to spend a bit of non-playing time to stack the missions. Use this tool to figure out where to go. the number of missions varies with the state in the BGS, so you might have to move on a Thursday, especially if two sets of the factions go to war with each other:

for comparison, i get about 100 mil per hour mining platinum with an optimised Cutter, a bit more than that if I use the fleet carrier to stockpile, and about 100 mil per hour doing Robigo sightseeing missionjs in a shieldless Python.
