Has 'Discovered By' Changed Exploration?

Has discovered tag changed exploration for you?

It changed it for me in so much as it made me go out exploring for the first time. It's a nice example of how something other than credits can provide motivation. What I'd really love is if we could name anything we discover ourselves.

I just started on my own exploration trip last night.

If a system hasn't been first discovered, but it's not particularly interesting, I'll just move on after scanning the star.

I'm on a hunt for Earth-like worlds (and haven't encountered any yet), so if/when I encounter these - or if there are worlds that could be terraformed - I'll do a full survey of the system.

If I see one or two 'interesting' planets in a system, I'll do a full survey of those and take some snapshots - an example of which is in the post I linked to.

A little, but I'm so far out now I haven't seen a scanned system for thousands of light years. It's interesting to think that some of the systems I'm scanning now will never be seen by anyone else.

I voted no. There's always a chance people are going to have been to somewhere before me, especially the more well-known nebulae etc, so if I get a first that's great and if I don't then fair play to someone else. It takes nothing away from the journey and sights that you can see.

A good question OP. I move on despite the fact that I can still be paid for my efforts, albeit not as much. I'm a bit tired of the competition that goes with ED at the moment: be first to do this, deliver the most of that (etc.). It's all down to the mentality of the player of course, because we are supposed to get out of ED what we want from it. I try to ignore this aspect of ED, but yes, I avoid previously scanned systems and move on. (I even skip those that contain ice worlds.)

I voted "Other" because while it did not change the way I explore, it certainly improved the profitability (lot of 1st to discover bonuses) and it gave a new motivation to do it. I hope FD will use that with a top explorers and a way to browse a list of your discoveries at some point. Overall, definitely a step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned.

I only went out exploring a tiny bit, before the introduction of "discovered by". Now that we can get our names on the planets, I've been spending a LOT more time out exploring. I'm not OCD about scanning every planet (or even every Star) - but I do like the satisfaction of finding a quality system which doesn't already have tags on the planets.

From the perspective of a "non-explorer", those discovered-by tags look a bit like the "first!!!1!" comments below a youtube video.

Even more if the remote objects haven't been scanned by that player.
