Has FD improved route plotting over the years?

As part of the DW2 tour just got to Sag A* (and finally got my EDSM badge) [smile]

I have been there before, around 4 years ago and remember the painful waiting for a route to plot as I got closer to the core. But this trip, with all star filters off, was no problem. Even the last 500lyr plot to Sag A was done within 15 seconds.

But my first trip was beset with route plotting trouble. For the last 2k I was plotting routes of 300lyrs and the last 300lyr jump to Sag A took over an hour to finalise.

Some of this could be PC related. My first ship was a i3 duo core and my current ship is an 6 core FX6300 but is that alone the reason for quicker route plotting?
At the time Sag A was popular to visit and others, with better rig specs, were having similar issues.

I think the biggest issue nowadays is that you get "plot failed" and you can't tell where it failed. Other than that it seems to have improved as you can plot much longer distances than you could before.

There were a bunch of optimisations put in around the 2.2 release which mean that "fastest" route plotting is only approximately the fastest, but is considerably quicker - which let them increase the max plot range from 1kLY to 20kLY. The core plotting issues were certainly fixed when I went there shortly after 2.2 - if I remember rightly, there was previously an issue where if there were a lot of stars it would take absolutely ages to optimise even a 2-jump route, whereas now it just picks one roughly in the middle and goes "good enough".
 
I still do that, only now I do it because I want to, I just get distracted to much by shiny things I guess :D

Similar.Although the route distance has increased from 1k to 20k I still plot routes around 1k. If I see over 40 jumps per route I become demoralised and may miss something by being too scoop and honk related getting the jump total down.
