General / Off-Topic Has Frontier ever answered anyone's questions?

Guys, to the best of your knowledge, has anyone from Frontier replied to a question posted on the forums? Or is this just somewhere given for us to vent?

Yes

Edit: Though this is the worst feature request I have seen in a while, so they may not answer this one ;)

Lol, point on that one Factabulous, any idea on time scales for replies or is it an as and when? Also, do you know if they get proper replies or tongue in cheek ones skirting around the questions asked?

If the post is a genuine problem someone is having then they need to put in a ticket, this will be answered quicker than just a post on the forum. Yes they do look at some of the issues and will on occasion make a reply to the thread.

Not a tech issue I was enquiring about but a few suggestions as the title of this page on the forums says, hence why I was wondering if anyone from Frontier answers them and gives a serious reply.

it is mostly for venting (and chatting) and yes, it has happened, but don't get too excited.

frontier have their own agenda. they do read and make of it what suits them and answers are always political. say e.g. people is complaining/asking about A, B and C consistently for a while, you might see an answer like 'we have been listening to your concerns and are happy to announce we will tweak D [D being something remotely related to some side effect of, say, B, and something on their agenda anyway]. keep the feedback coming!' which will be cheered at by the usual chorus. yeah, pathetic.

at early stages there was some sort of communication but that's long gone, they think they don't need that anymore and seem to regard this forum just like their facebook page.

Shame if that's true Znort, and I know that they can't answer everything but I still think and believe that they should make every effort to answer their customers.

I think the issue is that they don't want to make a rod for their own back. Every F D answer is subsequently quoted to death so either positive or negative answers produce the same sort of response from us users. So you only see answers to non-contentious issues or in clarification to stuff that they have put forward (like the Open PP thing).

Note that sometimes you get a humorous post from them.

Agree with Para Handy, but would add that I have noticed several suggestions sneak into the game.

They don't have any recognition, but they do get implemented if Frontier sees them as worthwhile and worth the effort.

They very rarely reply directly to anything in this particular forum - and only occasionally elsewhere, for that matter - but they certainly read a lot of it. They do definitely look at the issues raised - both as broad patterns and in some cases very specific requests - and do things with them.

Generally you'll get your reply in the form of a changelog entry (or just things working differently in future) rather than on the forum, though. I suspect in general unless they have a specific question they want us to answer (generally in Focused Feedback, though Galnet and Missions have both had devs asking in Dangerous Discussion) they prefer to take a hands-off approach and see what comes out of the debate and discussion, rather than intervening early and perhaps closing off angles as a result.

It's not true. The do get to answering or doing something about "A","B" or "C" if it's relevant enough (to a factual majority, not a few lone voices trying to bring attention to non-game-breaking trivialities) , maybe not right away, but often eventually. As with everything, there is a priority list of which comments pertain to issues which are more pressing. For example C&P was updated and improved after a long list of complaints, but not to the naysayers with their agenda of labeling everything FD does or try as "worse" or "incompetent". Same with doing away with RNG for "god" rolled modules with the old engrs, but now some complain the grind is too much when it's actually much less. FD even let those with god-rolled modules keep them. FD has done so much to try to be pleasant and accommodating to ED's playerbase, but some will always try to crucify them or marginalize their competence. Frankly sometimes I think they are rooting for, or perhaps involved with competitors to Frontier.

Depends on what the question is...but ye they do occasionally answer something they wanna answer and completely ignore anything they dont (most things)

I do remember getting an answer on the whole beigification issue last year...only took 5 months of asking but they got there in the end...(even though the answer contradicted a previous off the cuff remark which left everyone even more confused cos they wouldnt elaborate)

Its been like this fer so long that I found the best option was to not ask questions at all...partly cos I dont trust them and partly cos ye wont get bitter when they ignore it.

A shorter version answer might be "maybe eventually"

I think it's a good thing Frontier keep their poker face close to their chest.
Being all gushy about open pipeline development, i stream whatnots is all a bit needy as far as I'm concerned.

Uh? Hmm?? Huh? I didn't even mention CIG/RSI shinies. You just made that up!

Of course !

The developers, the community managers answer questions, and also the moderators.

Not always but often.

I remember before, the former producer of ED, Michael Brookes answered regularly to the questions.

He was very present on the forums.

FD chooses which questions to answer and when. They see such answers as small promises so they have been very careful, I would say almost too careful, in what they are saying. However I believe they are reading forums actively.

Also if you have actual problem with game - bug ate your ship, problematic save, etc. support is best venue to ask for help anyway.

I don't know how to approach community which are chewing every word you say. There's certain toxicity due of liberal moderation on forums and I believe that also plays into staff's unwillingness to engage to be fair.
