Has somebody tweaked NPC armaments .... AGAIN?

Hi,

A while back I had a whinge because I and a lot of other people were getting assasinated by npc with ships that had advanced weaponry like far superior firepower or shields. Frontier did address this imbalance but I am wondering whether it has been reverted by some recent update? I left a station today on 3 separate occasions with delivery quests and on each occasion I was interdicted by a ship that just failed to go down. On one of them I managed to get his shields down, I hit the craft (Vulture I think) with 12 missiles and hardly dented his hull so     is going on? My Cobra MkIV is pretty well equipped so each time it is destroyed it costs about 370k credits plus fines for failed mission so in an hours gameplay I lost a million credits on 3 trading quests. I enjoy matched combat but this was ridiculous can somebody look into this because people need to be able to trade and make credits otherwise its a futile exercise you cant progress to better ships etc

Missiles are terrible at taking down tough hulls, that's all that's going on, I think. Vultures are tough birds. Even moreso if the NPC had HRP's or a hull upgrade.

Yeah OK but hardly made a dent and tbh what worries more is the frequency of attacks where npc ship severely outguns my own Cobra MkIV I mean three in a row if that keeps up I will not make any credits at all in fact I could be bankrupt in a few days

Check your mission briefs. The mission rating dictates the level of opponents you will face, even if the rating is a trade or exploration one. I have always thought that this is a bit confusing and that missions should be rated by combat rating only.

Random interdictions are based on your ratings (combat or trade/explorer -1 whichever is the higher I seem to remember) so if you have recently gone up a rank or two (like I have in trade) things can get a lot tougher very quickly.

Well Bladerunner if that is right the gaming logic is wrong surely. Personally your trading level should determine the frequency with which you come up against enemy ships of your combat level but it should not increase the combat level of ships you encounter that, as you say should match your combat level not your trade level. I wonder iof anyone is listening ..?

I nearly got it right. If your trade or explorer level is higher than your combat level then the interdicting ships are at your combat level +1. It was introduced after all of the AI is too hard / AI is too easy whingeing that went on after 2.1 to try and tailor difficulty to the individual. But it sucks. It means that you do not live in a constant universe, it changes nature as you progress, not to mention becoming tediously predictable as you are interdicted by the same level opponent in the same ship for the n'th time.

It should be random based on a normal skewed distribution with the median at Competent.

Difficulty CHOICES should be via planned activites; RES, CZ, Missions e.t.c.
