Has something changed on the Oculus VR front since October?

Has something changed in ED re VR since october?

I used to run my GTX 1080 in VR with max everything except ambient occlusion and bloom
0.65-0.75 sub sampling in game.
Debug tool 1.5-1.25 (respectively) pixel density.
I would get a solid 90fps with occasional dips down to about 60 and my GPU would be running at 80-90% usage. Very satisfactory.

But recently I came back to Elite in VR a couple of weeks ago after a hiatus and for the life of me I can't get a frame rate about 45 with ASW constantly on... in space battles, it turns lasers into jaggy lightningbolts and menus have very strange warpy shaped outlines.

Doesn't matter what I do, it's locked at around 45 FPS except at the opening menu and depending on the location the GPU can run from anywhere between 35-70% usage.

I don't use antialiasing.

It doesn't mater whether im in solo or open.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm disappointed by the drop in visual quality.

In terms of regular non VR play, my rig 4770k i7 4.5GHz OC 64Gb RAM 512Gb SSD x 2 raid 0.
I usually play at triple 4K with in game downsampling to 0.65-0.75 ultra settings. (Except ambient occlusion bloom and blur)

Why would the OP have steam VR on if he is oculus?

Steam VR doesn't fire up for me, unless steam opens it up behind the scenes...

Does it open it up behind the scenes?!

GraXXor - if you're on the Rift, turn ASW off by using Ctrl-NumPad 1 (make sure NumLock is on). That will fix the wonky lasers, melting menus and HUD lines etc.

Then you should be able to see the real fps your 1080 is rendering at the normal 90fps timing. You may see some judder as ATW will need to work over time.

No major changes for me, Rift CV1 etc, PC as in sig.

Suggest dropping Depth of Field to Off, Blur Off, Shadows to medium, Ambient Occlusion to Low or Medium.
I use HMD Quality 1.25 as well - I find it the best fit for the 1080GTX. I suspect setting HMD Quality at anything other than 1 overrides the Oculus Debug Tool setting.
