Has the AI tweak borked docking computers?

As per title, Has it? I have had LOTS of issues with the DC pile-driving the station/missing the portal etc so much so that I have to take over until I'm inside THEN slow down for auto dock, only way to stay alive. This happens EVERY time. Very strange behavior.

I only have encountered DC having problems at places where lots of people are parked (and the instance has "grown old", chaotic). No big issues apart headbutting the back of the station a few times. Then again, since DC wrecked one of my ships (embedded to station wall, unable to get it manually out), I've not let DC do anything else but final few meters. It's doing better job now in 2.1, but I still don't trust it.

Honest question:

Never used a docking computer, are they worth the internal they occupy? I mean, will it be that much of a quality of life improvement if I do?

They're nice to have with the lumbering giants, but in anything smaller than the 3-big and a T9 DC is waste of space, IMO.

They are convenient for the most part. docking can get a little tricky and this does help
but sometimes is prone to drunken behavior such as just drifting to the left instead of landing
or waiting in a never ending line to enter the dock. the only way to fix that is to enter the station
yourself and then throttle down for auto dock :D

Thanks. No need for one then as I can reliably fit a conda or t9 through the slot without the proximity alarms going off. I thought maybe they would be faster to dock but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Best idea, if you are really intent on using it is to place yourself in front of the slot first (facing it) then letting the DC do the job for you.

Or better yet - nosing in first.

A certain err less than sober Scot, that I know has been smashed up twice in a fortnight by DC errors.

DC on. Chatting on the Discord. Rebuy screen.

I have 3 ships, I only have a DC on the Python, that's because I use it as a glorified hauler for trade loops, DC takes the tedium out of docking every time I loop, but I only engage it once I've lined up with the portal, I'm faster than DC at lining up, and DC is faster than me at landing on the pad.

Forgot to say, yes the DC does seem borked, space platforms have been most notable for me, wing tips are corner to opposite corner, before changes they were straight, and have had the DC run my ship into a rotating stations just to the side of the entrance.

This is what I now do, have DC enabled but DONT SLOW DOWN for it to engage until I see the pad with a clear LOS and a little way to go, no issues, just dont ask it to turn lol

I only kick mine in after I've entered the mail-slot. They are marginally faster than me at finding the right pad and aligning, also a lazy option for me. Sure if I had never had one I would be far more competent than it.

Strangely though, they are really good at slowing the ship down after coming in high speed when smuggling.

If you really want to see the DC spaz out.. slowly fly to a landing pad on planet surface.. then stop so the DC engages. The thing rarely moves the 5 more meters till its in position.. it will boost a few km away then come all the way back. Sometimes trying to do this through the ground!

Always used one since day dot. Never crashed, never had a problem. So far particularly useful for landing on planets rapidly, especially when dark/dark side of planet (The Dweller).

Allows me to go get something to eat/go for a wee/make a call etc etc plus I've found landing manually tedious after first few efforts.

It's annoying it uses a slot but I reckon as time goes on it will be moved to just another one of the modules in the same slot as the planetary landing suite (looks like it's got 8 total slots? Unless someone knows otherwise), same with the discovery/surface scanner etc.

After all I doubt you'd need a 1 tonne computer to calculate how to move a spaceship slowly in 6 vectors in the year 3300...😂

I tried a few with the DC outside the station manually getting to the entrance side before activating but haven't seen any notable difference with a fighter or an Anaconda/Cutter as to how they respond individually. Normally I'm manual all the way in as it is much faster then after passing the mail slot activate the DC to complete the landing pad touchdown. Best of both worlds.

I almost always use DC and have had my only 3 DC related crashes since the last update.

I like the DC, especially as i have a macro button programmed to request docking.

Once within 7.5km I hit the macro button then the X button to stop. Then sit back and admire scenery/fetch more beer.
