Has the BGS been frozen pending the 3.3 Patch?

Hi All,

I've been hunting around to see if there was an announcement, the only reference I could see was a short mention in the Incursion stream that BGS states would most likely be reset to "None" during the 3.3 release.

Two ticks ago, two of our 4 systems seemed to be "frozen", in the most recent tick all 4 systems are now frozen from a state and INF perspective. Quite frustrating for those in our group that spent a lot of time working on it.

Or just more "quirks" to add to those seen since the start of November?

Any official word on what's going to a happen to the existing BGS states and values over the next few days? Is this expected or should I be raised a bug report?

Is anyone else seeing this same frozen BGS issue?

Thanks!

I've seen "no changes" in a bunch of systems which definitely had enough traffic to change - though most have changed as normal.

Yesterday a bunch of systems changed implausibly fast.

It's not so much frozen as unpredictably unstable.

I'm seeing odd influence changes here and there. It kind of looks like the actions taken several days ago keep repeating themselves (influence wise) to a degree. Like it's stuck in a loop.

One of my systems has been put into an unwanted expansion.

unpredictable and unresponsive was pretty much the status quo for the last month or so especially the last week but something changed even if it was war in two systems or double expansions or similarly strange systems. That was the quirks since November. But all factions in the system fully frozen is new.

4 systems from 5 are the same :( In one non-changed system election is pending. And no mind, what's going on during preparation. Continue is strictly self-censored....

It's definitely not been working as expected (or at least as I expected) over the past few days. We've had a mix of big swings despite limited activity, no change at all despite lots of activity, and relatively normal behaviour spread over the systems we occupy.

I am now even more curious as to what is going to happen to all our existing states when the new system is put in place on Tuesday. If all current and pending states are wiped, as some have predicted, then these recent big influence changes are something that could come back to bite us in a few systems. If they're not wiped, then the same changes could come back to bite us in different systems.

I suppose that we'll just need to wait and see what happens. Interesting times.

Could be a perfect storm :

1) BGS states used to generate missions
2) BGS states reset on Q4 deploy
3) Reduced mission generation (no booms / famines / wars / expansions active)
4) More difficult to move the BGS
5) Then it jams again randomly

Interesting times indeed ;)

Based on stream, all states are set to None. They will just try to keep expansion because global. But it was not sure it seemed.

I tend to find a 'None' state is the best time to move INF, multiple similar S&R missions that are easily stackable to/from same destination, with or without board flipping. Board flipping might just be replaced with 15min pause to wait for a board refresh while you to get a coffee/tea/beer/wine and peruse the codex to see if all your past discoveries like the missing 110 Ram Tah Guardian obelisk messages are present etc

Mission completion throughput during 'None' is easily over double the rate compared to other states. The one possible wet blanket is the removal of board flipping. Still day two there will be almost universal boom, at least in any positively worked system, getting into boom is easy, that's usually half the problem.

However I suspect the will be some wild cards resulting in all manner of initial deviations from boom:
1. new Mission server will serve up some gold rushes initially so even more boom in some areas.
2. Scenarios from megaships will be hammered by curious players. Unfortunately on the stream negative actions seemed both easier and more rewarding...so sucks to be you if there is a megaship in one of your systems early on in 3.3/chapter 4
3. Is incursion going to be put into the systems that have a burning or damaged station? Since the patch is before the weekly tick the three currently targeted systems seem likely to have one or more systems go into incursion.....again mass curiosity and BGS research will see some interesting things from Anti and Pro Thargoid groups plus the usual mix of people attracted to a crowd. Should see the ED equivalent of 'Barren's Chat' in the new system channels.
3. Large Influx of Carto and Mining
4. Many blocked wars from single conflict states will turn into many wars/elections
5. Many blocked Expansions/Retreats will become many expansions and retreats.... with retreats far more likely than expansions.
6. Most of the current 'quirks' in live I suspect is because some of the new BGS code is already on the servers, if we keep seeing the same erratic results each tick it could go anywhere.....
7. etc

But that's not really the question here....my question was is the BGS frozen in the meantime before all that happens post patch? Should we be take a holiday from the BGS for a few days and focus on personal narrative? Switching focus to getting eng mats for new ships ready or grind the last of those Fed or impirial ranks before board flipping is no more, etc

Missed one, everyone competiting in the Squardron leaderboards generating more of pretty much everything....

OK, looks like whatever the blockage was has been cleared. All 4 systems appear to have updated....not sure if all work over the three days has been factored in but it's probably about right.

I wonder if the large jumps could be down to the same issue, a few ticks aren't processed and then there is a large catch up correction?

Over in Cowini, an insane real life stalker from the Shroud of the Avatar community has been desperately trying to remove my friends faction just because I'm vaguely connected to it for over 8 months now; and I've seen the odd day where it looks like the BGS didn't update at all whilst preventing that too... but it's so opaque a system it's impossible to know if someone else has matched his madness that day or not.

However over the past few days I did see a few relatively huge swings. However he really is bonkers, and when ever I pushed the control back to 40%, he goes berzerk and dedicates enormous effort the next few days, and it's currently in such a mania stage so it's been pretty much in character in our part of the universe.

In our case the % INF for ALL factions in the systems remaind exactly the same, not even second decimal values changed. After multiple people ran 10 to 20 missions, traded, Carto, etc. each day. Historically that would have produced significant changes in INF.

Having 4 systems have a net zero change across all factions in active systems (often 300+ traffic) is extremely improbable. The most likely reason is that BGS transactions weren't processed during the tick for a day or two but finally caught up.

Also makes me wonder about other efforts in the last month where 50 missions were completed and no change occured or % went backwards. Maybe some of the BGS transactions are not being factored in intermittently?

Operation IDA has proved, and I've seen the same myself, that that is bugs with station repairs where deliveries aren't counted towards the station repair completion. Perhaps BGS has similar bugs, but without knowing all the inputs and relying upon a output that's an argegate no real way to confirm that unless there is large inputs and zero output like what happened here.

Is that "United Imperial Dairies"? According to inara.cz it's native to Cowini. It can't retreat and be expelled from it's home system.

Retreat doesn't start unless you drop below 2.5%. You've kept above 36% since August, 20% clear of all the other factions. Anyway, as I said, you can't be removed from your home system of Cowini.

If someone was trying to replace you as controlling faction, then I'd expect to see one of the other factions raising up from the rest to challenge, but that hasn't happened.

What's "Shroud of the Avatar"? I can't find a faction with that name.

I’m out in Omicron Ursae Majoris and at the moment the tick seems to be frozen. There has been no sign of any movement in influence or states. 7 systems with all the factions in system all but one system have a none state, the one system has two factions in a election the rest again had none. Prior to the new patch Deep Recon X was in a expansion phase in the last few days of it, now that’s obviously been wiped out and a few systems DRX influence has been all over the place, in OUM dropped from 55% down to 30% with the other factions all boosted by 10% , one system is a barely visited system for us and that’s was boosted from 48% right up to 71%. Has anyone else seen this ? Or should I place a big report ?

bug report. you are not the only one who have noticed it.
