Has the profit for Elite Explorer changed ?

Basically I've been outside of the bubble for a long time, since before the update that bought passengers/guardians, and I decided to come back to the bubble.

I was previously on a rank of Pioneer, about 12% in, so something around 65 million I think (very approximately).

Anyway, I started playing again in earnest and I've jumped back 13K-odd light years over a couple of days, and sold something near 90 million worth of scans.

I thought that Elite was somewhere between 155 - 160 million ? As can be seen on my screenshot, I've got 150 million but only 52% pioneer progress.

Anyone have any knowledge they can share, or is this a straight-up bug ?

Regards

Since 2.3 I believe ELW, WW, AM and teraformables have been significantly buffed in payout. To compensate for contributing too much to exploration rank they made the the payouts only count half as much towards your rank. So I guess Elite would be approx 300 million now if starting at aimless today. For you it will be somewhere closer to 200-250 million I guess with already being nearly halfway there.

Seems you hit a nasty edge case where your data collected but not handed in before 2.3 did not get the credits buff but did get the contribution to rank nerf.

Might be worth a ticket.

Have a look at this thread https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...for-confirmation-exploration-rank-progression - me and @marx came to the conclusion that you only get half value for credits in 2.3, which apparently how it was in the beta but just wasn't mentioned on the patch notes.

As far as im aware credit values for scans are logged at the time of scan so any before 2.3 would of been the old values (after checking it's mentioned in the patch notes that pre 2.3 scans are unaffected by the buff)

Profits has changed a bit... :D
Four planets picked for profits. No first finder's bonus, just the "base value" \o/

Thanks for that.. I think on balance I'll raise a ticket. The notes of my Journey are a little confused but I had worked out that I would need approx. 1,000 average undiscovered Black Hole/Neutron scans to get me to Elite based on my previous hauls to 12% Pioneer, my notes have me down as having scanned ~800, all prior to 2.3 and all scanned a while ago, E.g., months. When 2.3 came out I became re-invigorated, reckon I scanned about 100 more then another 75 or so on the way back to the bubble. This left me on 145M and 50% exactly, the other 5M gained by scanning Neutrons in an around the bubble in frustration yesterday - that 5 Million extra seems to have netted the extra 2%.

So I think there are two scenarios:

1. I'm plain wrong and didn't scan what I thought I did and have received correct credits and progression throughout
2. I received correct credits for all scans prior to 2.3 but not received correct rank progression

I'll let you know how I get on

From my understanding it seems correct as rank is worked out as you turn in the scans and the value of the scans so instead of you getting what would of been enough to hit elite pre 2.3 it's essentially valued your 90m at about 45m in regards to pre 2.3 rank progression

I do not know for sure, but can also confirm my rank has gone down

Which is fine. With these new payout elite explorer too easy

Whats easy for others, is hard for others. I have many friends who cant stand the idea for going out in the black for months and they rather stay within the bubble.
Also, its not just about gaining Elite rank, exploration profits before 2.3 were WAY too low and cr/hr ratio is easily the lowest compared to combat, mining or trading.

That's true, but they don't need to spend months nor go far. They can stay close to the bubble (say, within 1000 ly) and go around visiting and scanning already-discovered Earth-like worlds. It wouldn't be terribly entertaining, but to be frank, powerleveling something rarely is.

The increased payouts are very welcome, as you noted in the rest of your post, but in my opinion, FD should have increased the rank thresholds accordingly. Or at least say that it was too high originally, and they decided to effectively bring it much lower.

This is very true; it's a big call to commit yourself for months on end as a gamer that may only put in 10 hours a week max or so. You can see from the screen shot I supplied that I've put in plenty of time into the game, and I've prestiged at CQC. So far I've missed out on passengers/guardians updates because I've been out in the black and I would have missed out on this update too for a long while if I stayed out there. I'm not particularly bothered about the money aspect (I'm quite advanced in trade as you can see). I don't have any problem with Elite status taking lots of time and effort but I would say that I am more dedicated than nearly all the people I know that play E:D. What IMO would make this more attractive is that a commander if over 10K LY out from the start point can temporarily go on hold and start again with a sidewinder and 1,000 credits and actually get to play the DLC without fear. Limit it to a maximum profit of 10M as well or something. Amalgamate the two once back in the core. That would be a good offering IMO.

I was out of the country for a while and couldn't access the forum, but here's what they said:

"
We've adjusted some exploration skill gains in 2.3 and for data sales, you now get 50% of your profit as skill.

The other adjustments are for Passenger sightseeing (20% of credit value) and Long distance expedition (40%).

I believe this will likely account for what you're seeing here and apologise for any disappointment or confusion caused
"
