Newcomer / Intro Hauler sneaking issues

Okay, so, I've been mostly exploring so far; swapped my cargo rack on the sidewinder for a fuel scoop, flew off in some entirely random direction, got hopelessly lost, made a lot of money and generally had a merry old time. I decided to move up to a hauler; still for exploring, but I wanted a cargo slot, since I'm always finding valuable cargo floating around in space. The problem is that I can't seem to drop my temperature enough to avoid scans when entering a station; I turn off everything, including life support, flight assist, and sometimes even thrusters, and I still sit around 30%. I've fitted a heat sink launcher, but that only works for a brief second before shooting back up again. I've fitted a better power supply, too. Is there anything I'm missing, or is the hauler just not suitable as a "smuggler" ship?

I find that the adder can handle heat better than the hauler.

Also, selling stuff at Outposts rather than Starports is easier - they rarely if ever scan you...

Plus, as I just discovered yesterday, stations in Anarchy systems have no police to scan you or fines to give you for smuggling, so there's no need to sneak! Pirates, on the other hand, might be a problem...

Thanks for the replies.

I actually have an adder now; it seemed to be a good step up from the hauler and is also pretty decent for combat. I seem to have the same problem, though, I just can't drop it below 30-40%. I've been sticking to anarchy systems and outposts mostly, but I often see a few shady missions in my current home port (Futeno, if anyone's interested. I haven't seen any players for a loooong long time), so it'd be good to be able to do those, if only for the fun and danger of sneaking past the feds :)
