Hauling CGs are incredibly boring. They are exceptionally low-effort on the developer side. And further, offering up an actually useful module like the C6 CRCR, only to half of participants, is just poor gameplay design.

Come on guys, you can really do better than this. You're making people actively dislike the game. Time to change it up.

Not like CGs themselves are a spectacular game mechanic. They were fine when the game was in early dev and everyone thought they were a placeholder for better MP play. They were fun when they were novel and they did give the fledgling community unity and purpose. But man, it's such a stale idea now and the more complex game mechanics I was certainly expecting got refiled or lost. If they ever existed at all.

I actually liked the weekly cut and paste CGs that just picked a system at random and went either "fight a war" or "deliver some stuff and also bountyhunt"

Not only did they give something to concentrate players so we could meet each other (even if only in syschat) the accompanying galnet stories did wonders for creating the impression of a lived-in galaxy even if I personally didn't sign up for whatever was going on that week - especially since a lot of the little stories were little one-off local politics pieces that didn't have any relation to any ongoing plot. Current galnet tends to suffer a bit from "the only things happening in the galaxy are related to the current main story arc".

... but I could rant about that subject endlessly when it comes to media in general these days. Looking at you, streaming-era television.

This one also has a double barrier to getting the C6 CRCR, only one of which can be controlled by the player.

Being in the top 50% is up to the player, but making Tier 5 is not, and the way things are currently looking, I’m not optimistic. Historically there’s always a significant increase in CG work over the weekend so I’m hoping that will put it on track to be at Tier 5 in the 7 days allowed. We’ll see.

Hauling CGs can be mechanically boring (as are combat CGs). Even Titan kills are not mechanically interesting.

But Trade CGs are tactically interesting - do you believe that T5 is possible and commit? Or believe it impossible & ignore? Do you think the reward is worth even considering? Do you aim to snipe the top 50%, or go all-in and do too much for more peace of mind?

Some complain about any CG (or indeed any content). I hope they have as much fun not doing it as others clearly do in taking part :D

I like hauling CGs. I'd be all over this one, except that I know I can't play next week.

This is just a "abolish game activity I don't happen to like" thread. I don't know why ED is so prone to this considering we should all know it's a sandbox which tells us to blaze our own trails.

If you like to gib oreos over and over... How is this different?
The difference is - you don't have to compete for who gibs the most oreos in order to access an actually useful module which is event-exclusive.

Gibbing oreos is a free choice on your own time, at your own rate. Like it or don't like it, it doesn't provide or preclude anything.

Hauling CG is a time-gated, competitive grind to access content that, in my personal view, should be made generally available to begin with.

CG are narrative gates, they are an optional mechanism to draw players together.

The original concept for ED was for players to wing up together and help each other, eg a cargo ship hauling tonnes, hire two wings for support etc (well before wings were an actual thing), but it failed to work and their inevitable solution was effectively a broken short cut,

Community goals likewise were an attempt to draw players together and make them compete for one of two, or more objectives. The wining side by victory essentially gives FD the nod they want to go in that particular direction and then FD adapts the narrative.

When there is no narrative then such CG probably are just placeholders… the objective of any CG is purely at the decision of FD who could just ignore the winning side and change the CG to suit… most players probably are only in it for the credits, which again is probably utilised by FD to sway the narrative in a particular direction. They also confirmed the in game narrative lies, so players actions could only ever by selfish, unless enough group together; but then your falling into BGS manipulation.

Kind of pointless. Unless you like free stuff or content. Some of it is probably boring by design.

I'm similarly disappointed that the CRCR are behind a CG, and only a certain % of participants can get it. Basically means there's no reason at all for me to do the CG, since I don't expect I'll have nearly enough time to contribute more than half of the participants.

The caustic sinks became purchasable via cash, where is the tech broker unlock for these cargo racks?

Yes, it's worth arguing. This module is needed for AX pilots who do not like trading CGs, and this forces them to do something that is not interesting.
Life is hard sometimes, isn't it?

The players will 'force' themselves, not the game, if they consider that they can't play without the module.

I wonder if the forums would come out to defend a CG that required the player to solo 20 Hydras near Asterope in a week (so no way you can use CZs to help) and the reward was an exclusive OP module like a double range FSD, Prismatic shield with normal mass and power draw, an SCO drive that generated no heat, etc.

Actually I suppose the accurate comparison here would be top 50%, which would be even harder since AXI has at this point, many people who seem to be able to kill Hydras for fun. I'm aware of at least one famous ganker with loads of AX medals who can take Hydras apart, so imagine them getting a BIS prismatic for solo'ing Hydras while basically everyone else gets nothing. Would be interesting to see if that would get defended as equally as this CG is getting defended.
