Have a Thargoid 5km behind, chasing.

Generally; what are their top speeds? I have my Cobra out at Maia and was hoping she would be able to out run them.

O.P. what are you flying?

Had one gaining on my Cobra going around 400-450 m/s when I first encountered one. Not sure if they can go faster. Didn't seem to be able to hit 500m/s.

Logically, not the case. If it was why would they pursue for over 100km?

Cos it's a game and they want to give you a chance to escape... it certainly speeds up and down a lot when its chasing you.

I have seen 400 ish, mentions in a video of them.

......so, what was the re-buy?

Surprisingly, no rebuy! Missiles got its shields down instantly, but its hull repairs itself too quickly for my ship to do any significant damage, and I couldn't damage the heart at all for some reason. Gave up once my canopy went critical.

Boosted away from the hyperdiction follower thargoid at 570 and lost it quick. Don’t know if it would be the same for others, that goid seems to work different than the rest.

I encountered one last night in my Courier (640 m/s unboosted, 868 boosted). Had no problem outdistancing it. That said, I turned around after heading out 30km (to scan a data beacon) and it was still coming, even though it was 7+ km behind (I got within 1.5km before it initially took notice of me, so I'd opened the range by at least 5.5km over that distance). So they're not all that fast, but they're determined.

Above 5k you are out of mass lock with any of the ones I've come across so far - I've yet to find one able to catch me at 440ms (FA off, jinking).

I'd be interested to know what the top speed of the Cyclops actually is. Pre-2.4 my FdL (370, boosts to around 497) could easily keep pace with them after a hyperdiction as they sped away to jump. I don't think they were going flat-out, though.

The one at the first NHUSS I ran across today in my Anaconda (boosts to around 330) just waltzed off when I was at full speed right behind it. I didn't have a chance of catching up (although admittedly the Anaconda isn't really a good benchmark for speed). Eyeballing it, maybe close to 500 m/s? That could be way off, though.
